ECAC Announces 2019 Division I FCS Football All-ECAC
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2019 Division I FCS All-ECAC Teams and Major Awards.
After a great season Monmouth took home Offensive Player of the Year for Kenji Bahar and Coach of the Year with Kevin Callahan. Ron’Dell Carter from James Madison University won Defensive Player of the Year, Jeff Undercuffler from Albany won Offensive Rookie of the Year and Tristan Wheeler from Richmond won Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Bahar set every one of the Hawk’s single season passing records throwing for 3,684 yards and 30 touchdowns and will graduate owning nearly every career passing record. He was the first player in conference history to throw for 30 touchdowns. The fifth-year senior led Monmouth to the school’s first playoff victory and a #11/14 national ranking on his way to being named Big South Offensive Player of the Year.

Ron’Dell Carter lived in the opponent’s backfield this season. The 2019 CAA Defensive Player of the Year and Buck Buchanan Award Finalist led the CAA in tackles for loss with 22.5 for a total of 108 yards. He ranked third nationally in tackles for loss per game with 1.9. A two-time All-CAA selection, Carter recorded nine and a half sacks this season.

Undercuffler led the Great Danes to Albany’s first FCS playoff victory. The Redshirt Freshman threw for 3,543 yards and an FCS best 41 touchdowns in his first season under center. Undercuffler earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in the CAA and placed second in Jerry Rice Award voting, given annually to the nation’s most outstanding freshman.

Wheeler was named the CAA Defensive Rookie of the Year and was similarly a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award. He led all freshmen in the country in total tackles with 104, recording six games with double digit tackles. Wheeler became the first true freshman in CAA history to reach the 100-tackle mark and the first freshman of any kind since 2013 to reach the mark.

Kevin Callahan led Monmouth to a historic season for the program. The Eddie Robinson Award finalist set a school record for wins with 11. Monmouth hosted and won its first playoff game in program history. Reaching No.11 in the national rankings, the only losses the Hawks suffered were to No. 2 James Madison and in the playoffs to No. 6 Montana.
