ECAC Announces DIII Baseball Major Awards and All-ECAC Selections
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2018 Division III Baseball Awards and All-ECAC selections.
Colin Kelly of Union College was voted ECAC Player of the Year, while Washington & Jefferson College senior Bryce Schnatterly earned Pitcher of the Year. Jack Koch from Union received the ECAC Rookie of the Year honor, with Misericordia University's Pete Egbert taking home ECAC Coach of the Year to complete the major awards.
Union College sophomore Colin Kelly was selected as the Player of the Year as the Dutchmen captured their third Liberty League title in five years. Kelly was one of the team's leading hitters, as he had a batting average of .401 and a team-best 33 extra-base hits. He paced the league in slugging percentage (.803), home runs (12) and runs batted in (58). His 58 runs batted in was a single-season school record. He was also second among league leaders in runs scored with 43 and doubles with 17.
Schnatterly finished the season 7-0 (10 starts), which included a pair of complete games and a shutout, to go along with a 1.98 earned-run average. His ERA led the Presidents' Athletic Conference while his win total is tied for the top spot. He posted 54 strikeouts, third-best in the PAC, and logged 68 1/3 innings, fifth-best in the league. In six PAC regular-season starts, Schnatterly went 5-0 with a 1.82 ERA.
Jack Koch was recognized with the Rookie of the Year honor after making an immediate impact for the Dutchmen. The freshman led the team in hitting with a .433 batting average and 43 runs scored. He produced 13 doubles, two triples and four home runs while totaling 55 hits on the year. In 32 starts and 36 games, Koch leads the league in batting average as well as runs scored while ranking second in on-base percentage (.516), slugging percentage (.661) and stolen bases (23).
Egbert guided Misericordia University to a 27-11 record and a 17-4 MAC Freedom record as the Cougars clinched their eighth straight conference title. The Cougars begin play in the NCAA Division III World Series Friday against Randolph-Macon College.
