Track Athlete of the Week
Susan Hendrick – Columbia
Senior, Solomons, Md.
Hendrick set a school record in the one mile race, as she ran
the course at the Ivy League Heps in 4:49.42 on Saturday. On
Sunday, Hendrick was part of the 4x800 meter relay team of Columbia
that won the Ivy League championship. Hendrick was the anchor
for the Lions, which as team set the meet and school record with a
time of 8:49.37. The previous school best was
8:49.44.
Field Athlete of the Week
Jamila Smith – Dartmouth
College
Senior, Memphis, Tenn.
Smith won the shot put and finished second in the weight, competing for Dartmouth at the annual Heps/Ivy Championship contested Feb. 24-25 at New York City's Armory. In the put, Smith's throw of 46-2 3/4 was more than a foot farther than the runner-up's of 44-8. Last May, she won the shot at the outdoor Heps Championship. In the weight, Smith threw 53-1 3/4, good for runner-up honors. She scored a total of 18 points toward Dartmouth's team total.
