Central Connecticut Captures 2008 ECAC Open Women's Swimming & Diving Championships


PITTSBURGH, Pa. - For the first time in program history, the Central Connecticut State University squad won the 2008 ECAC Open Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.  CCSU accumulated 425 points narrowly edge out Rider University (400.5), with Marist College taking third place totaling 379 points.

The University of Vermont (345) and University of New Hampshire (323) rounded out the top five teams.

Central Connecticut received its best performance of the meet from Lindsey Snyder, who finished first in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 56.96.  The Blue Devils also had solid efforts from Rachel Brookman in the 100 Butterfly (56.28) and the 200 Freestyle Relay team (1:36.82), each taking second place in their events.

A pair of Rider athletes were recognized with the two main awards of the weekend.  Priscilla Modrov swam to victories in the 200 Individual Medley (2:05.87) and 400 Individual Medley (4:22.48), earning 'Swimmer of the Meet' honors.  Teammate Amanda Burke scored 281.25 and 305.50 in the 1-meter and 3-meter Diving events, respectively, and was named 'Diver of the Meet' as a result.

'Swimming Coach of the Meet' went to both Steve Fletcher of Rider and Gerry Cournoyer of Vermont.  Dennis Ceppa of Rider received the 'Diving Coach of the Meet' accolade.
