Div. III Women's Basketball Players of the Week

Player of the Week

Angela Astuccio - Mount Holyoke College
Senior, Guard,
Foxboro, Mass.

Astuccio averaged 21.0 points helping the Lyons to a 2-0 week and solidfying their No. 2 position in the conference. In both games, Astuccio was the team's leading scorer, including a career-best tying 28 points against Clark. She was clutch from the free-throw line, nailing 22-of-24 attempts. Defensively, Astuccio averaged 7.0 rebounds, including a game-high 11 against Clark, 2.0 steals, and 1.0 block on the week. As the point guard, she dished-out six assists, four against archrival Smith.

Joanna Dobeck - Rochester Institute of Technology

Dobeck averaged 20.5 points and 9.0 rebounds as RIT defeated the top two teams in the conference standings to clinch the fourth seed in the Empire 8 tournament.  She tallied a career-best 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting and grabbed 12 boards to lead the Tigers to a 73-61 victory over Ithaca.  On Saturday, she finished with 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field and six rebounds in a 67-61 win that snapped Elmira's 13-game winning streak.

Player of the Week

Jessica McEntee - New York University
Sophomore, Forward,
Flushing, N.Y.

McEntee averaged 25.5 points, 16.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks while shooting 53.8% (14-26) from the floor and 75.8% (22-29) from the foul line in the Violets' 2-0 week.  McEntee finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds, including a 9-13 effort at the charity stripe, in a 68-65 victory at Case Western Reserve University on Feb. 16.  Two days later, she scored 26 of her career-high 36 points (fourth-highest one-game total in team history) in the first half and added 18 rebounds as NYU overcame an early 15-point deficit in a 69-67 triumph at Emory University.  McEntee (11-18 FG, 13-16 FT) scored the game-winning basket with 1:11 remaining.  She now has 15 double-doubles this season, including five straight, for the #4-ranked (ESPN/USA Today) Violets (22-2, 11-2 UAA).

Player of the Week

Melissa Kraft - Drew University
Senior, Guard,
Staten Island, N.Y.

Kraft led the Drew Rangers into the Freedom Conference playoffs for the first time ever with great performances in Drew's two conference wins this week.  On her Senior Night, Kraft scored 29 points in a narrow 84-76 win, including the game's biggest shot, a three with just under three minutes remaining for a 70-67 lead.  She also had five points in the final minute to preserve the game. With Drew needing a win to stay alive in the playoff hunt, Kraft scored a career-high 36 points in Saturday's victory at Wilkes.  The guard scored 20 of Drew's 30 points in the first half to keep the Rangers in the game.  In the second, she scored 16 points and converted a number of key buckets to secure the win.
