Colby Women Captures Bracket B of the 2010 ECAC Holiday Festival

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. - The Colby College Mules defeated the College of Staten Island, 90-48, to claim the women's bracket B title at the 2010 ECAC Holiday Festival at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. The Mules rolled to the win riding the coattails of Tournament Most Outstanding player Jill Vaughan who netted 16 points and grabbed 8 boards. She had 12 points and eight rebounds at halftime. Vaughan shot 6-for-7 from the field and made all four of her free throws.
Vaughan averaged 14.5 points and 10 rebounds for the tournament.
The Mules had started their trip to Florida with a 61-53 victory over King's College on Saturday and closed the trip Sunday with an easier victory. Colby led 14-3 just 4:25 into the game, cruised to a 35-11 margin about 13 minutes into the half, and was up 51-20 at halftime.
Alison Cappelloni led all scorers with 17 points and chipped in with six rebounds. Cappelloni is just 11 points shy of reaching 1,000 for her career and will now get an opportunity to reach the milestone at home when the Mules entertain Husson College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Samantha Allen added 16 points and three assists for the Mules. Julianne Kowalski had a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, Aarika Ritchie finished with 10 points and three assists, Kelly Potvin had eight points, Rachael Mack blocked three shots and had six points, and first-years Jacky McLaughlin and Diana Manduca both had four assists.
Colby held Staten Island (3-6) to just 25.7 percent (18-for-70) shooting and had a 54-36 rebounding advantage. The Mules pulled down 114 rebounds in the two Florida games. Colby shot a blazing 9-for-15 from 3-point range and had a 15-for-17 effort from the foul line. Cappelloni and Allen were both 3-for-5 from 3-point range and Ritchie was 2-for-3.
