Div. III Men's Basketball Players of the Week

Division III - New England
Player of the Week
Brandon McCombs- Salem State College
Senior, Forward, Springfield, Mass.
McCombs, a First Team All-MASCAC selection last
season, posted three straight double-doubles in helping lead the
Vikings to three wins last week which extended their current win
streak to five. McCombs began the week by posting 18 points, 14
rebounds and three blocks in a 75-59 win over Westfield State. In a
68-62 non-conference win at
Emmanuel, McCombs recorded 13 points and a season-high 17
rebounds. He also registered a pair of blocks, dished out two
assists and made four steals against the Saints. In Saturday's
115-96 win over Framingham State, McCombs scored a season-high 27
and pulled down a game-high 12 caroms versus the Rams.

Division III - Upstate
Player of the Week
Lawrence Avitabile-Vassar College
Junior, Forward, Southington, Conn.
Avitabile led the Brewers to a 3-0 week in Liberty League play, including back-to-back overtime wins against St. Lawrence and Clarkson, and a share of the league lead for the first time in school history. In games against Rensselaer, St. Lawrence and Clarkson, Avitabile averaged 19.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, and shot 61.5 percent from the field.

Co-Player of the Week
Thomas Baker-Rowan University
Senior, Guard, Millville, N.J.
Baker averaged 33.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week of play for Rowan. He first notched a career-high 42 points on 14-of-24 shooting from the field while adding seven rebounds in the Profs' 93-87 NJAC victory over Kean. He wrapped up the week by tallying a game-high 25 points while adding four rebounds and two assists in Rowan's 68-66 conference road loss at William Paterson. Baker currently leads the NJAC in scoring with an average of 20.3 points per game.
Mike Hoyt-Mount Saint Mary College
Senior, Guard, Florida, N.Y.
In a 2-1 week for the Blue Knights, Hoyt averaged 41.3 points and 3.7 assists while shooting 57.7 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent from 3-point range. After a 46-point, five-assist performance against Centenary, Hoyt became the first Mount player to score 50 points in a game when he struck for 50 in a win over Maritime. He closed the week with 28 points, three assists and three steals against Merchant Marine.

Player of the Week
Tom Bicknell - University of
Scranton
Junior, Center, Melbourne, Australia
Bicknell shot 64 percent from the field and posted back-to-back double-doubles in points and rebounds in leading the Royals past Wilkes, 70-47, and DeSales, 78-70, during the period as Scranton took over sole possession of first-place in the Freedom Conference. The junior connected on 7 of 8 shots from the field to tie his career-high with 20 points and tied his career-high with 17 rebounds in the win over Wilkes. Bicknell connected on 9 of 17 shots from the field to tie his career-high again with 20 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in Saturday's win over DeSales.
