ECAC Division III Metro Men's Basketball All-Stars Selected

CAPE COD, Mass. – Junior center Marcel Esonwune of York College has been chosen as the 2009-10 ECAC Division III Metro Men’s Basketball Player of the Year.  Esonwune finished fifth in the CUNYAC in points this year with 576 and an average of 18.6 per game.  Additionally, the junior finished first in the conference in rebounding, averaging 14.8 per game.

Hunter College freshman Eric Klingsberg has been chosen as the 2009-10 ECAC Division III Metro Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Year, with per-game averages of 15.6 points and 2.4 rebounds.  The Hawks forward was named the CUNYAC Rookie of the Year for his efforts.

Joining Esonwune on the ECAC first team are Nicholas Hamilton-Lopez of York College, Marvin Billups of SUNY Purchase, Abdoulaye Ouedraogo of William Paterson University, and Richard Jean-Baptiste of Brooklyn College.

Hamilton-Lopez finished the year with 584 points, averaging 20.1 per game, along with 2.4 rebounds per game.  Billups, the Skyline Conference Player of the Year,  finished his junior season with 20 points per game, coupled with 6.4 rebounds per game. 

Jean-Baptiste earns accolades after helping the Bulldogs to a second-place finish in the CUNYAC with averages of 19.4 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per game.  Ouedraogo earns a spot after being named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Player of the Year.  Ouedraogo totaled 280 points on the season with 34 assists and 18 steals. 

Five players that were selected to the ECAC second team are: Carlos Valdez of Mount St. Mary College, Vaughn Mason of John Jay College , Justin White of Bard College, Santini Lancioni of Richard Stockton College, and Joseph Ellis of William Paterson University.

The Eastern College Athletic Conference is the nation’s largest athletic conference and only multi-divisional conference, with 319 member institutions and over 122,000 student-athletes ranging from Maine to North Carolina and westerly to Illinois.  The ECAC publicizes the achievements of over 750 student-athletes annually through the postseason all-stars.  In women’s basketball, the ECAC awards one Division II all-star team and four regional Division III all-star teams (New England, Upstate, Metro, and South).
