Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week (for the week ending April 25, 2010)

Division II

Offensive Player of the Week

Claire Petersen – Adelphi University
Sophomore, Midfielder, Wantagh, N.Y.

Petersen tallied nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points to lead the Panthers to a 2-0 week. She had four goals and seven assists against New Haven and five goals and three assists against Southern New Hampshire. She also totaled six ground balls during the week.


Defensive Player of the Week


Caitlin Fitzpatrick – Adelphi University
Senior, Goalkeeper, Port Washington, N.Y.

Fitzpatrick recorded two more wins for the Panthers, collecting 19 saves on the week. She posted a 8.0 goals against average and a .543 save percentage with wins over New Haven and Southern New Hampshire.

 

Division III New England

Co-Offensive Players of the Week

Jill Kirk – Keene State College
Junior, Attack, Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.

Kirk paced the Keene State attack this past week with 20 points, on nine goals and 11 assists, in victories over Colby-Sawyer, Castleton State, and UMass Dartmouth. She recorded at least five points in each contest, including an eight-marker outburst against the Chargers. Kirk also tallied seven points against the Corsairs with three goals and four helpers

Shelby Bradford – Husson University
Senior, Attack, Lee, Maine

Bradford was named the NAC East Tournament MVP and led the Eagles to their first NAC East championship. Bradford tallied 13 goals, four assists, 32 groundballs, 23 draw controls, and nine caused turnovers in three wins.


Defensive Player of the Week

Leah Neff – Endicott College
Sophomore, Goalkeeper, South Berwick, Maine

Neff backstopped the Gulls to another perfect week in TCCC play, closing out the regular season at 11-0 in conference.  Neff made 12 saves in a 21-9 win over Salve Regina and notched 14 saves in the regular season finale, a 15-6 victory at Curry.

 

Division III Upstate

Co-Offensive Players of the Week

Karen Shaddock – Buffalo State
Sophomore, Attack, Corning, N.Y.

Shaddock led the Bengals to a 3-0 week with 13 goals and seven assists. Shaddock became the first Bengal to total 100 career assists as just a sophomore

Sarah Warner – Vassar College
Junior, Attack, Ipswich, Mass.

Warner had an 18-point week, getting back-to-back five goal games in wins against Farmingdale State and Western Connecticut. She added three goals against RPI. She was strong defensively as well, getting 14 groundballs, seven against Western Connecticut and had eight caused turnovers.

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Cat Ruggiero – Union College
Junior, Goalkeeper, Huntington, N.Y.

Ruggiero allowed a total of just four goals in the two league victories at home last week. The NCAA Division III leader in save percentage (.614) has helped Union win seven of the last eight overall games, as she allowed one goal versus Clarkson and three versus St. Lawrence. On the week, she had a GAA of 5.67 in three games with 24 total saves.

 
 

Division III Metro/South

Offensive Player of the Week

Megan Mars –Centenary College
Senior, Midfielder, Jackson, N.J.

Mars single-handedly clinched the second seed in the CSAC Tournament for the Cyclones with a 14-goal, one-assist performance against Gwynedd-Mercy on April 20. Her scoring output matched the NCAA Division III all-time single-game total and came one-point short of the NCAA Division III all-time single-game points total.

Defensive Player of the Week

Megan Tierney – Ramapo College

Senior, Goalkeeper, Wayne, N.J.

Tierney totaled 26 saves in a pair of victories during the week for the Roadrunners. She opened the week by notching 11 saves in just over 39 minutes of action during Ramapo’s 15-7 road win at Mt. St. Mary. Two days later, she notched 14 saves in 60 minutes of action during the Roadrunners’ 13-12 road win at Farmingdale State. Tierney currently leads the NJAC in saves per game (8.08).
