ECAC Announces 2010 Division II Womens Lacrosse All-Stars
CAPE COD, Mass. – Adelphi University’s sophomore attacker Claire Petersen is the 2010 ECAC Division II Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year. Petersen had 119 points on the season with 46 goals, including four gamewinners, and 73 assists. She collected 57 ground balls during the season and caused 24 turnovers.
Dominique Mosca, a freshman goalkeeper for Long Island University - C.W. Post, had an outstanding collegiate campaign posting a 10-1 record on the season. The East Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year compiled a 7.32 goals against average to rank third in Division II. Mosca made 77 saves on the season, including three games with double digit saves, to tally a .497 save percentage.
Demmianne Cook of Adelphi was selected as the 2010 ECAC Division II Women’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Year. The freshman midfielder had 43 goals and ten assists on the season, giving her 53 points. The middie picked up 49 groundballs and posted 23 caused turnovers.
Adelphi teammate Erica Devito joins Petersen as a forward on the ECAC first team. Devito had 73 points on the season with 53 goals and 20 assists. Senior Nicole Haines of West Chester University and sophomore Alexandra Keirn of Mercyhurst College take the last roster spots on the first team. Haines had an impressive 46 goals and 16 assists, giving her a total of 62 points on the season. Keirn was a leader for the Lakers, scoring 47 goals, four of them being gamewinners. She totaled 104 points on the season, and complied 39 ground balls.
Joining Cook in the midfield on the ECAC First All-Star team is Adelphi teammate Elizabeth Fey. The junior netted 53 goals and dished out 17 assists, giving her 70 points on the season. Also earning a spot is junior midfielder Kim Masterton from Mercyhurst. Masterton totaled 84 points on the season, giving the Lakers 50 goals and assisting on 34. Finalizing the midfield is Dowling junior Casandra Cronin. The middie compiled 67 goals during her junior campaign on 135 shots. She scooped up 36 ground balls and caused 24 turnovers.
The ECAC first team defensive unit is comprised of Adelphi’s Kristin Jones and West Chester’s Katy Crouse and Lauren Tatios. Crouse and Tatios helped the Rams record a 17-1 record before postseason play. While collecting 65 ground balls and causing 36 turnovers, Crouse also helped on the offense end, scoring nine goals. Tatios, a senior, was a solid anchor in the back, scooping up 53 ground balls and recording 36 turnovers. Jones, a junior, highlighted the Adelphi defense, causing 37 turnovers and picking up 56 ground balls.
Mosca, the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, also garners first team accolades after playing in 622:39 minutes during her collegiate debut. Mosca started every game for the Dukes and had a save percentage of 0.500 on her 212 shots faced.
