ECAC Announces 2010 Division III Upstate Women’s Lacrosse All-Stars

CAPE COD, Mass. – Union College’s junior attacker Kristen Joyce is the 2010 ECAC Division III Upstate Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year. Joyce, the repeat Liberty League Player of the Year, had 80 points on the season with 72 goals, including four gamewinners. Joyce collected 18 ground balls, won 29 draw controls, and caused eight turnovers during the season.  

Maria DiFato of Cortland State was selected as the 2010 ECAC Division III Upstate Women’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Year. The freshman midfielder had 40 goals and 18 assists on the season, giving her 58 points. She also picked up 72 groundballs, won 29 draw controls, and caused an impressive 67 turnovers.

Joining Joyce as an ECAC first team attacker is Alyssa Pigott from Stevens Institute of Technology. The Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year had 83 points on the season with 58 goals and 25 assists. The SUNYAC Player of the Year, Buffalo State’s Karen Shaddock netted 53 goals and dished out 30, giving her 83 points on the season. The sophomore also won a 57 draw controls. Finalizing the attack is Lindsay Abbott from Cortland State. Abbott was a leader for the Red Dragons, starting every game, scoring 51 goals, handing out 34 assists and winning an impressive 104 draw controls.  

Joining DiFato in the midfield on the ECAC first team is Lauren Glavin from St. John Fisher. Glavin netted 46 goals and dished out 22 assists, giving her 68 points on the season. She also caused 14 turnovers and gathered 31 ground balls. Also joining the squad is Sarah Bray from Hamilton. Bray started every game for the Continentals, tallying 73 points with 28 goals and 45 assists. She also scooped up 66 groundballs.  Finalizing the midfield is senior Jessie Fritz, from Cortland. Fritz helped the Red Dragons on the offensive end by scoring 42 goals and dishing out 21 assists. She also helped cause 34 turnovers and picked up 60 ground balls.  

On the ECAC first team defensive unit is Kate Cox from Stevens Institute of Technology. Cox started every game for the Ducks. While collecting 55 ground balls and causing 29 turnovers, Cox also helped on the offense end with two goals and one assist. Lauren Sokol from Hamilton joins the first team after scooping up 36 ground balls, causing 25 turnovers, and winning 28 draw controls. Closing up the group is Amber Kinsey from Skidmore. The senior led the defensive unit by winning 51 ground balls, causing 25 turnovers, and winning 39 draw controls.  

Earning ECAC first team goalkeeper honors is junior Cat Ruggiero from Union. The junior played in over 1,100 minutes of action, allowing 124 goals for a goals against average of 7.07. She posted a .587 save percentage, faced 403 shots, and earned a 13-4 record.
