ECAC Softball Players of the Week - March 27, 2012

CENTERVILLE, Mass. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its Division I-II-III (regional) softball weekly awards for March 27, for the period ending Sunday.

Division I

Hitter of the Week

Lauren Maloney – Stony Brook University
Senior, Infielder, Las Vegas, Nev.

Maloney earns ECAC player of the week honors after batting 10-for-16 (.625) while leading Stony Brook to a 5-0 week. She totaled five extra-base hits, with three home runs and a conference-leading eight runs scored. Her season batting average of .348 currently ranks ninth in the America East Conference and 11 extra-base hits places her second in the conference.

Pitcher of the Week

Rebecca Bliss – Lehigh University
Junior, Pitcher, Escondido, Calif.

Bliss had a stellar week for Lehigh as she collected three complete-game shutouts on the week. In 21 innings of work, she did not allow a single run, giving up nine hits, striking out nine and not walking a batter. Bliss allowed four hits in a 2-0 shutout of Penn on Wednesday before giving up five hits combined in two shutout victories of 1-0 and 2-0 over Harvard on Saturday and Sunday.

Division II

Hitter of the Week

Nicole Hagenah – C.W. Post University
Sophomore, Shortstop, Commack, N.Y.

Hagenah went 12-for-22 (.545) with ten runs batted in and three home runs on the week. The sophomore hit two home runs and drove in four against Adelphi University before going 4-for-6 with three RBI against Queens College. She finished off the week hitting 4-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored in a double-header split with Southern New Hampshire University.

Pitcher of the Week

Kelsey Cockrill – Southern Connecticut State University
Freshman, Pitcher, Haymarket, Va.

Cockrill picked up four wins in as many appearances for Southern Connecticut, allowing two runs in 25 innings of work. The freshman struck out 16 batters and allowed 23 hits in her sensational week. It is Cockrill’s first ECAC Player of the Week award of her career.

Division III – New England Region

Hitter of the Week

Kelsey Tuthill – Emerson College
Senior,Third Base, Middlefield, Conn.

Tuthill put on a batting clinic going 11-for-18 (.611) in six Emerson victories last week. She led her squad with 12 RBIs to go with eight runs scored and a slugging percentage of 1.111. The senior also hit three doubles and two home runs in her appearances.

Pitcher of the Week

Molly Rathbun – Eastern Connecticut State University
Senior, Pitcher, Hebron, Conn.

Rathbun rewrote the record books last week as she became Eastern Connecticut’s all-time leader in wins (74), saves (11), and appearances (110), while matching the standard for career shutouts (37). She posted an 8-1 mark with a 0.50 ERA in ten appearances. The senior allowed a meager three runs on 15 hits, striking out 69 over 42 innings of work. Rathbun also registered her seventh career no-hitter against The University of Chicago, striking out 14 while yielding just two walks in the contest.

Division III – Metro

Co-Hitters of the Week

Kristen Beikirch – The Sage Colleges
Freshman, Second Base, Brockport, N.Y.

Beikirch led The Sage Colleges to a 6-0 week with an impressive showing at the plate. The freshman batted 11-for-22 (.500) while accounting for nine RBI, eight runs scored and four stolen bases on the week. Beikirch’s 11 hits brings her season batting average up to a sizzling .544.

Hillary Genova – Farmingdale State College
Senior, Shortstop, Brentwood, N.Y.

Genova hit safely in all six games last week, leading Farmingdale State to a 5-1 record. She went 9-for-18 (.500) with nine RBI and scored 11 runs as she led the Rams to the top of the Skyline Conference standings at 4-0.

Pitcher of the Week

Lauren Shaw – Ramapo College
Senior, Pitcher, Wayne, N.J.

Shaw posted a 4-1 record with a 0.77 ERA in five appearances for Ramapo on its Spring trip to Florida. The senior allowed just three runs over 27.2 innings of work. She collected two complete game shutouts over Babson College and University of Wisconsin – Platteville to highlight her week.

Division III – Upstate

Hitter of the Week

Kyrstin Lekki – Buffalo State College
Senior, Shortstop, N. Tonawanda, N.Y.

Lekki batted .417 (15-for-36) with a .667 slugging percentage for Buffalo State last week. The senior batted in 11 runs and scored 11 runs. Seven of her 15 hits went for extra bases, including six doubles and a home run. She also committed only one error in 46 chances at shortstop.

Pitcher of the Week

Sam Crose – Skidmore College
Senior, Pitcher, Assonet, Mass.

Crose picked up two complete game shutout victories to lead the way for Skidmore last week. She struck out eight and allowed seven hits (with only one of the extra base variety) over 14 innings of work. Crose allowed only three hits in a 3-0 victory over Cazenovia College and four hits in 5-0 win over Castleton State College.

Division III – South

Hitter of the Week

Taylor Stockinger – Catholic University of America
Junior, Third Baseman, Olney, Md.

Stockinger led Catholic University to a 4-0 record last week after going 8-for-13 at the plate with 11 RBI and six runs scored. She highlighted her week with a 3-for-4 performance in a victory over Randolph-Macon College in which she hit a home run and batted in three runs. Stockinger also went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored in a win over Juniata College.

Pitcher of the Week

Erin McMakin – Catholic University of America
Sophomore, Pitcher, Olney, Md.

McMakin had a stellar week for Catholic as she posted a 3-0 record with a 1.31 ERA and 16 strikeouts as well as picking up her second career no-hitter. The no-hitter came in a 4-1 victory over Randolph-Macon College in which she fanned eight and walked one over the seven inning outing. McMakin is 8-1 on the season with a 2.01 ERA over 59.1 innings pitched.
