Softball Players of the Week: (for the week ending April 25, 2010)
Division I
Player of the Week
Caitlin Belanger – Holy Cross
Junior, Infielder, Fall River, Mass.
Belanger batted .526 with a .789 slugging percentage in six games last week. She produced two doubles and one home run while driving in eight runs. She scored four times and was 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts. Belanger went 8-for-14 with six RBI and four stolen bases in Holy Cross’ four Patriot League games against Lafayette.
Co-Pitchers of the Week
Julie DiMatteo – Niagara University
Sophomore, Pitcher, South Portland, Maine
DiMatteo went 3-0 in three starts last week, highlighted by a no-hitter against Rider in game one of the doubleheader sweep on Saturday. She went the full seven innings in Niagara’s 7-3 comeback win at Buffalo, striking out six while holding them to one run in the last four innings. DiMatteo had three strikeouts en route to tossing a no-hitter against Rider. In game two against the Broncs, she held them scoreless in three innings of work, while striking out two and allowing two hits.
Katie Lingmai
– Towson University
Freshman, Pitcher, Salem, Ore.
Lingmai went 3-0 in the circle last week, including a no-hitter, to guide the Tigers to a 5-2 week. She threw six innings against Villanova, allowing two runs, while striking out five. At Madison on Saturday, she pitched a complete game, giving up four runs, two earned, and seven hits. She finished the week with her first-career no-hitter against the Dukes. Lingmai posted a 1.40 ERA in 20 innings of work last week and 19 strikeouts.

Player of the Week
Christie Softy –
C.W. Post
Senior, Shortstop, Floral Park, N.Y.
Softy erupted at the plate this week, batting .429 with ten hits, including six homers, for 17 RBI, with a 1.381 slugging percentage. She started the week with a walk off grand slam to give C.W. Post a 10-2 win over NYIT, totaling six RBI in the game. She also had the game-winning hit in the second game against St. Thomas Aquinas with a two-run homer and batted again in the same inning with an RBI single as part of a 14-run inning for the Pioneers. Softy’s heroics continued when she drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth with a solo shot to center field in a 3-2 win over Molloy. On the week, Softy drove in 17 runs and scored eight.
Pitcher of the Week
Alitha Krolikowski – University
of Bridgeport
Freshman, pitcher, Bristol Conn.
Krolikowski picked up her first collegiate win as a pitcher on Saturday afternoon, when she fired a gem against St. Thomas Aquinas. Krolikowski blanked the Lady Spartans with a four-hit complete game shutout (2-0) in which she struck out two and allowed only two walks.

Co-Players of the Week
Cedar Blazek –
Williams College
Freshman, Outfielder, Highlands Ranch, Colo.
Blazek batted .813 (13-for-16), with six of her 13 hits going for extra bases during a 5-1-1 week for the Ephs. She set a new program mark for home runs in a season (8) with two last week. Blazek also walked five times and reached base on 18-of-21 appearances at the plate (.857 OBP). She drove home 11 runs in the six games she played and also scored nine.
Stephanie Lavado –
Keene State
Senior, Catcher, Wallingford, Conn.
Lavado powered Keene State College to a 7-2-1 mark this past week, batting .581 (18-for-31) with eight runs scored, four home runs, three doubles, and 13 RBI. The senior from Wallingford, Conn. registered seven extra-base hits to post a 1.129 slugging percentage and .606 on-base percentage. She collected at least one hit in eight games, including seven with multiple base knocks. Lavado was white-hot from the plate during a doubleheader with Fitchburg State, batting 5-for-6 (.833) with three homers and eight RBI.
Pitcher of the Week
Amanda Berard –
Rhode Island College
Junior, Pitcher, Swansea, Mass.
Berard posted a 3-0 record and a save in four appearances this past week to help Rhode Island College extend its season-high winning streak to nine games. The Swansea, Mass. product limited the opposition to just three earned runs on nine hits, while striking out 15. On April 24, Berard hurled a perfect game at Plymouth State, retiring all 15 batters she faced. The following afternoon, she recorded eight punch outs to earn the victory in relief over UMass Boston.

Player of the Week
Lyndsey Brognano – SUNY Institute of
Technology
Freshman, Shortstop, Rome, N.Y.
Brognano led her team to a 6-2 record in NEAC play and 8-2 record overall. Brognano averaged .533 at the plate going 16-for-30 with 14 runs, seven RBI, five doubles, a triple and two home runs. She had a slugging percentage of .967, drew six walks, had three stolen bases and had an on base percentage of .611. The highlight of Brognano’s week was a home run against SUNY Morrisville State that accounted for the only run in the Wildcats 1-0 victory.

Sam Crose –
Skidmore College
Sophomore, Pitcher,
Assonet, Mass.
In a 3-1 week for the Thoroughbreds, Crose threw a no-hitter against Mass College (nine strikeouts, 0 walks) and handed Union College with its first Liberty League loss with eight strong innings. From the week, she appeared in four games with two starts, going 2-0 with a save. In 17 innings, she allowed five runs (3 earned) on 14 hits, three walks, and 19 strikeouts.
Katie Finch – SUNY Cortland
Senior, Pitcher, Amsterdam, N.Y.
Finch threw her second perfect game of the season and her sixth career no-hitter in an 8-0 win vs. St. John Fisher that was called after five innings due to the eight-run rule. She struck out nine batters. She followed that by allowing only one hit and fanning five in five innings in an 11-0, six-inning win at Oswego. The single she allowed one out into the first inning snapped a streak of 43 consecutive batters retired over a five-game stretch.

Player of the Week
Nicole Farber – Farmingdale State
Junior, Shortstop, Oakdale, N.Y.
Farber hit .889 in two double headers this week, recording another NCAA record with six consecutive hits against Staten Island. She also had two RBI’s, two walks and two stolen bases in those games the Rams won 5-0 and 17-2. Against Mount Saint Mary, she went 2-for-3 with two walks, one RBI and two stolen bases.
Hope Zino – Farmingdale State
Sophomore, Pitcher, Bay Shore, N.Y.
Zino went 2-0 this week, posting another week with a 0.00 ERA. Against Staten Island, she allowed four hits and walked only two with eight strikeouts. Against Mount Saint Mary, she struck out a school record 15 batters, breaking her own record from last season of 14 K’s, to take a 3-0 victory with no walks and just two hits.

Player of the Week
Brooke Tapman – Frostburg State
University
Junior, Outfielder, Pocomoke, Md.
Tapman had a monster week as she powered the Bobcats (14-2 AMCC, 22-12 overall) to a 6-0 record. She hit .632 with 12 hits, 12 RBIs, 11 runs and four HRs. The Bobcats' all-time leader in runs, HRs and total bases, Tapman also set the school's RBI mark in the sweep of first place Pitt-Bradford.
Pitcher of Week
Kristin Durborow – Centenary College
Junior, Pitcher, Manahawkin, N.J.
Durborow went 5-0 with four shutouts in six appearances on the week as Centenary finished the week 6-0. She gave up just two runs in 29.1 innings for a 0.61 ERA. Durborow struck out 44 batters while limiting opponents to a .091 batting average (9-for-99).
