Washington Sweeps Ten Eyck Events to Repeat as IRA National Champions

Sacramento, Calif. - The University of Washington earned a perfect 198 points in the Jim Ten Eyck (overall point trophy) standings to win the 107th Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships at Lake Natoma (Sacramento, Calif.). Princeton University earned the Men's Lightweight Eight Trophy and University of Wisconsin repeated as Women's Lightweight Eight Champions. The three-day (June 4-6) was held west of the Mississippi River for the first time in the association's history.
The University of Washington earned gold in the Men's Open Four (6:25.4, fifth title), Freshman Eight (5:50.6, 19th title), Second Varsity Eight (5:51.4, 22nd title), and the Varsity Eight (5:50.9, 13th title) events. The Huskies earned the Jim Ten Eyck Trophy (overall points calculated by finish in freshman eight, second varsity eight and varsity eight events) for the third consecutive time and seventh overall ('53, '59, '64, '70, '07, '08 and '09).
The University of California-Berkley earned gold in the Men's Open Four (6:32.6, fourth title) to complete a perfect sweep in men's heavyweight events for the West Coast crews.
In lightweight racing, Princeton University earned its first title since 1998, fourth overall, in the Men's Lightweight Eight (6:03.2). As predicted by polls, the University of Wisconsin claimed gold in the Women's Lightweight Eight (6:56.2) for the fifth time.
Boston University claimed the Clayton W. Chapman Trophy as the most improved crew based on Jim Ten Eyck Points.
