Men's Lacrosse (for the week ending April 26, 2009)

 

Division II

 
Offensive Player of the Week

Greg Rogowski - Merrimack College
Senior, Attack, Cohoes, N.Y.

Rogowski tallied nine points (five goals, four assists) in three wins this past week, including scoring the game-winning goal in a 6-5 triple-overtime win over Bentley. 

 
Defensive Player of the Week

Jason LaShomb - Mercyhurst College
Senior, Goalkeeper, Rush, N.Y.

LaShomb made 12 saves and limited the Cardinals to three goals as the Lakers defeated Wheeling Jesuit, 12-6, for the second time this season.  He registered a .812 save percentage and a 3.36 goals against average.  In two games against WJU this season, LaShomb has allowed just five goals on 25 on-target shots.  Overall, he is 10-3 on the season with a .603 save percentage and a 6.63 goals against average. 

 

Division III - New England

Offensive Player of the Week

Andrew Foster - UMass Dartmouth
Junior, Attack, Danvers, Mass.

Foster scored seven goals and added three assists for ten points to lead the Corsairs to a 1-1 week in the Little East.  He found the back of the net four times, including the gamewinner, as UMass Dartmouth defeated Salem State.  Foster turned a balanced scoring effort against Western Connecticut, scoring three goals and handing out three assists. 

 
Defensive Player of the Week

Jake McCampbell - Bowdoin College
Sophomore, Goalkeeper, Medfield, Mass.

McCampbell was solid in net for the Polar Bears over three wins last week, posting a 7.33 goals against average and a .656 save percentage.  McCampbell recorded 42 total saves, an average of 14 a game, including 18 in Bowdoin's 11-8 victory over Trinity in the quarterfinals of the 2009 NESCAC Men's Lacrosse Championship on Sunday.  McCampbell currently leads the league in save percentage at an even .600. 



Division III - Upstate


Offensive Player of the Week

Luke Weidlein - SUNY Plattsburgh
Junior, Attack, Seaford, N.Y.

Weidlein scored a season-high six goals and a game-best seven points in an eight-goal win at Brockport, sealing Plattsburgh's first-ever postseason berth to the SUNYAC tournament.  He also became the school's all-time leading scorer with 173 points in just under three seasons.  He contributed two assists to help the Cardinals beat Potsdam in back-to-back years for the first time in program history. 

 
Co-Defensive Players of the Week

David Gal - Ithaca College
Sophomore, Goalkeeper, Amherst, N.Y.

Gal made seven of his 15 saves in the fourth quarter on an 11-10 Ithaca win at Stevens to clinch the top seed for the Bombers in the Empire 8 men's lacrosse championship.

Todd Dermody - Nazareth College
Junior, Goalkeeper, Selden, N.Y.

Dermody made 18 saves as Nazareth clinched the fourth and final spot in the conference tournament in a 12-10 victory over RIT.  He allowed just six goals and made six saves in the Golden Flyers' 13-6 victory over Alfred on Wednesday.  

 

Division III - Metro/South


Offensive Player of the Week

Jon Bucknam - Drew University
Junior, Attack, Flemington, N.J.

Junior attack Jon Bucknam had a hand in 13 of Drew's 17 goals over the week as the team picked up a pair of wins.  In a season-ending victory over Scranton he found the back of the net twice and collected five assists in the Ranger win.  Earlier in the week, he tallied five times and added an assist in a 7-5 Drew win over Swarthmore.  He finished the week with seven goals and six assists. 


Defensive Player of the Week

Michael Celentano - Drew University
Senior, Goalkeeper, Bedminster, N.J.

Celentano turned in a pair of stellar performances in a 2-0 week for the Rangers.  In the team's regular-season finale he posted 12 saves as Drew blanked Scranton for the team's first shutout since the 1994 season.  Earlier in the week he made 15 saves while allowing just five goals in a non-conference match up.  For the week he boasted a 2.50 goals against average and a .844 save percentage.
