Volleyball (for week ending September 22, 2008)

 

Division I

 

Player of the Week

 

Natalie Meyers - Brown University

Senior, Setter, Huntington Beach, Calif.

Meyers led the Bears to a 4-0 mark and the Brown Invitational title this week.  The senior setter tallied 156 assists and 36 digs en route to All-Tournament honors.  Her week was highlighted by a 52 assist performance against Stony Brook, while also notching a team-high 19 digs.  Meyers helped Brown hit .421 in a win over Bryant as she dished out 40 assists.

     

Division II

 

Player of the Week

 

Natalie Edward - Queens College

Senior, Middle Blocker, Castries, St. Lucia

Edward led the Knights to a perfect 4-0 week without dropping a set.  She recorded 50 kills with a .550 kill percentage, 10 aces, 15 digs, and 13 blocks for Queens.  The middle blocked had 13 kills, six digs and five blocks against Post University. Edward tallied a week-high 15 kills in a sweep over Mercy.

 

Division III - New England

 

Co-Players of the Week

 

Marion Kish - Husson University

Junior, Setter, Wallingford, Conn.

Kish recorded a career-high 34 assists in a win against Green Mountain College as the Eagles went 3-0 last week.  For the week, the junior recorded 80 assists, six kills, 17 aces, and 22 digs.

Katherine Kanoff - Amherst

Freshman, Outside Hitter, Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Kanoff averaged 3.33 kills, four digs, and 1.89 aces per match in a 3-0 week for the Jeffs.  Against Bowdoin, Kanoff had a career-high 15 kills and 14 digs along with four aces, while only committing three errors in 27 chances.  For the week, the freshman totaled 30 kills, 36 digs and 17 aces.

Player of the Week

 

Rachel Ormsby - Union

Senior, Middle Hitter, Charlton, N.Y.

Ormsby led Union to a 4-1 week and the Liberty League Preview title, while also receiving All-Tournament honors.  She recorded 52 kills, 39 digs, and 20 blocks in the four matches of the tournament.  Against Skidmore, Ormsby posted 14 kills, 16 digs, and five blocks.  In Union's first win against Williams in 14 years, the senior tallied 14 kills.

 

Division III - South

 

Co-Players of the Week

 

Laurie Lindner - Waynesburg

Senior, Outside Hitter, Cranberry Twp., Pa.

Lindner tallied 64 kills and 48 digs in four matches for the Yellow Jackets this week.  She posted team-leading double-digit kills in all four contests highlighted by a 20 kill performance against La Roche.  She also recorded 17 kills against Washington & Jefferson and 16 kills against Grove City.  Against Thiel, Lindner had 15 digs and added 14 versus W & J.

 

Samantha Carter - Carnegie Mellon

Junior, Setter, San Antonio, Texas

Carter led the Tartans to a 3-2 record this week, including a 3-1 mark at the Carnegie Mellon University Crossover Tournament.  In a contest against Mount Union, Carter dished out 56 assists and added nine digs.  The junior recorded 49 assists, 11 digs, and three aces in a five set victory over John Carroll.  She had a season-high 60 assists in a 3-2 loss to Muskingum.  For the week, Carter tallied 217 assists, 44 digs and six aces.
