Field Hockey Players of the Week (for the week ending October 3, 2010)

Division I

Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Whitney Frates – University of New Hampshire
Junior, Forward, Woodstock, Vt.

Frates factored in all three UNH goals in the Wildcats’ 3-2 victory over Maine.  She set up the first goal for the Wildcats, and then scored the game-tying goal with just under four minutes remaining and the game-winning goal with five seconds left in the game.  Frates now has seven goals and four assists for 18 points on the season.

Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Christine Fingerhuth – American University
Senior, Forward, Santiago, Chile

Fingerhuth tallied two second half goals in a league win over Lehigh on Saturday.  She then went on to score the final two goals, including the gamewinner, to give the Eagles a 3-2 victory over No. 4 Princeton.  Fingerhuth now has eight goals on the season.

Defensive Player of the Week

Alesha Widdall – University of Massachusetts
Junior, Goalkeeper, Whitney Point, N.Y.

Widdall had a season-high 11 saves, including a diving stop on a penalty stroke, in a 2-0 upset over No. 8 Syracuse.  The shutout is the third this season for Widdall and the sixteenth of her career.

 

Division III – Mid-Atlantic Region

Offensive Player of the Week

Michelle Milkovich – SUNY Geneseo
Senior, Forward, Vestal, N.Y.

Milkovich led Geneseo to two conference wins this week, recording three goals in two games. She scored an overtime goal in a 2-1 win over previously unbeaten and nationally-ranked Cortland, and also netted both goals in a 2-0 win over Oswego.

Defensive Player of the Week

Liz Catinella – Skidmore College
Senior, Goalkeeper, Sudbury, Mass.

Catinella recorded two shutouts this week for Skidmore.  She made seven saves in a 3-0 win over No. 15 Middlebury and two saves in a 3-0 victory over Utica.  She has only allowed one goal in the last four games.

 

Division III – New England Region

Offensive Player of the Week

Morgan Lockwood – Babson College
Freshman, Forward, Feeding Hills, Mass.

Lockwood recorded six goals and one assist, totaling 13 points in a 2-0 week for Babson. She scored a goal and added an assist in a victory over Gordon earlier in the week.  Lockwood went on to score five goals in a conference win over WPI.

Defensive Player of the Week

Meaghan Johnson – St. Joseph’s College (Maine)
Junior, Goalkeeper, Portland, Maine

Johnson made a career high 20 saves in 3-2 victory over Castleton on Sunday in the Monk’s only game of the week.  Johnson has a goals against average of 1.22 and a save percentage of 0.885 on the season.
