CENTERVILLE, Mass. — The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2013 Division I Field Hockey All-Star teams today. University of Maryland senior teammates forward Jill Witmer (Lancaster, Pa.) and defender Ali McEvoy took home Player of the Year honors, with Witmer garnering the Offensive Player of the Year distinction and McEvoy earning the Defensive Player of the Year award. University at Albany first year midfielder Paula Heuser was named the Rookie of the Year. The teams are comprised of student-athletes from a possible 88 institutions from 17 different conferences, and the balloting was completed by head coaches within the ECAC Division I Field Hockey membership.

In 21 games, Witmer found the back of the cage 19 times and dished out nine assists for 47 points. She led the most potent offense in the country, as the Terrapins averaged 4.21 goals per game in 2013. Witmer led the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in game-winning goals with eight and was named a National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFCHA) All-America for the fourth straight season. Witmer also earned the 2013 ACC Offensive Player of the Year honor and the ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player accolade. She is currently a finalist for the Honda Sports Award, which recognizes the National Division I Field Hockey Player of the Year.

McEvoy anchored a Maryland defense that posted seven shutouts this season. She recorded one defensive save and offensively, she score nine goals to go with 11 helpers for 29 points. She was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and to the NFHCA All-America First Team. McAvoy, along with Witmer, helped the Terrapins to their 10th straight ACC championship and their sixth consecutive Final Four appearance.

Heuser, the America East Midfielder and Rookie of the Year, led the conference in both points (42) and assists (10), and she also finished in a tie for the league lead in goals scored. With 16 goals, she set an Albany single-season first year record for goals scored and she helped lead Albany to a 16-5 record and a berth in the America East championship.
