ECAC Announces 2009 Division II Field Hockey All-Stars
CAPE COD, Mass. - Adelphi sophomore forward Julianne Gerbino is the 2009 ECAC Division II Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Year. Gerbino had 35 points on the season with 16 goals, including six game winners, and three assists.
Adelphi's Lucia Vigliotti earns ECAC Division II Defensive Player of the Year with a standout performance in goal this season. Vigliotti started 18 games for the Panthers and had an outstanding save percentage of .789 and a goals against average of 1.81. The sophomore played over 1,289 minutes, allowing only 26 goals and making 97 saves.
Freshman Kristyn Grunza of Mansfield has been named the 2009 ECAC Division II Rookie of the Year. As a midfielder for Mansfield, Grunza had nine goals and eight assists on the season, including two game-winning goals, to top off an outstanding first-year performance.
Senior forward Emily Warren of Mercyhurst joins Gerbino on the ECAC All-Star team. Warren had 28 points on the season, netting 12 goals and four assists. Also joining the lineup are senior Krystal Napolitano and junior Amanda Nann of C.W. Post. Napolitano had an impressive 11 goals and four assists, giving her a total of 26 points on the season. Nann's 11 goals and two assists gave her 25 points on the 2009 season.
Joining Grunza in the midfield is Mansfield's Brittany Kostishion. Kostishion joins the ECAC All-Stars because of her nine goals and eight assists this season, giving her 26 points. Serena Slattery from Mercyhurst takes the final midfield spot, notching 10 points on the season with three goals and four assists.
Dieny Charlot, from Southern Connecticut State is one of three ECAC All-Star defenders. The junior had an outstanding season with five goals, three assists and 13 points. Mercyhurst's Courtney Loper and Adelphi's Danielle Demola also earn spots on the All-Star team. Joining the defensive unit is Vigliotti who was selected as the 2009 ECAC All-Star goalkeeper.
