ECAC Announces Division II Field Hockey All-Stars


CAPE COD, Mass. - UMass-Lowell senior forward Michell Harrington has been chosen as the 2008 ECAC Division II Field Hockey Player of the Year. Harrington was named Northeast-10 Conference Most Valuable Player, after a season where she recorded 18 assists and a total of 22 points. She helped lead the River Hawks to their second straight NCAA National Championship appearance.

The Rookie of the Year honor goes to Stephanie Sideris of Bentley. A Northeast-10 All-Rookie selection and the Freshman of the Year, Sideris registered seven points to help guide Bentley to a 17-6 mark.

Andrea Slaven, last year's ECAC Player of the Year, is joined at the forward position on the All-ECAC team by Sammy Macy of UMass-Lowell, Stonehill's Claire Hourihan and Brooke Woodland from Philadelphia. Slaven led the Knights in goals (13), assists (five) and points (31) this season. Macy was second in the nation in goals per game (1.22) and points per game (2.78). Hourihan tallied 20 goals, placing her sixth in the nation in goals per game. Woodland registered 15 goals and two assists for the year.

Joining Harrington as part of the midfield unit on the All-ECAC team are Missy Seeley of UMass-Lowell and Whitney Martin from Southern Connecticut. Seeley was the Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year, with six goals and 13 assists on the season. Martin, a team captain, totaled 36 points this year on 14 goals and eight assists.

The All-ECAC defenders consist of Alexandra Simmons from St. Michael's, Laura Sullivan of UMass-Lowell, Stephanie Laskey of American International. Simmons was named to the Northeast-10 First Team, while tallying two assists and one goal. Sullivan was part of a defensive unit that recorded nine shutouts. Laskey totaled four points and was also named to the Northeast-10 First-Team.

Junior Alyssa Sliney receives her third All-ECAC selection at goalkeeper, as she recorded the best save percentange in the country (.828). Her play led Bentley to a 17-6 record and the Northeast-10 Championship.
