ECAC Announces Division III Field Hockey All-Stars

CAPE COD, Mass. - Senior forward Lindsey McNamara of Bowdoin College has been chosen as the 2008 ECAC Division III Field Hockey Player of the Year for the second straight season. McNamara ranked second in the nation with 32 goals and fourth in the nation with 3.26 points per game. Recognized as the NESCAC Player of the Year, she led Bowdoin to a 19-2 record, and its second straight national championship. This is the third year in a row that McNamara was selected to the All-ECAC first team.

Alex Okuniewicz from The College of New Jersey has been voted the Rookie of the Year. Okuniewicz ranked second on the team in goals with 15 and points with 34. She helped lead TCNJ to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Along with McNamara at the forward position are Jennie Moore of Ursinus, Alex Wolfe of Lebanon Valley, and Brittany Gibbs of Kean to round out the All-ECAC first team. Moore, the Centennial Conference Player of the Year ranked third in the nation in goals scored with 31, and topped the nation in points per game (3.86). Wolfe (19 goals) received Player of the Year honors in her conference and Gibbs (27 goals) led her conference in four offensive categories.

At the midfield position the All-ECAC first team consists of Kait Sutherland from Ursinus, Julia King from Bowdoin, and Amanda Pickard of Brockport State. Sutherland helped Ursinus to an 19-3 record behind her 14 goals and 24 assists, which led the nation. King scored six goals and tallied 16 assists. Pickard tallied 40 points in 18 games for Brockport State this season.

Kelly Mitchell of TCNJ earns All-ECAC first team defender honors for the second consecutive year. Johns Hopkins' Leah Norton also finds a spot on the first team as a defender. From her position in the back, she scored seven goals and assisted on 10 others en route to being named to her fourth All-Centennial team. Alyssa Rowell of Keene State rounds out the defensive unit on the All-ECAC first team. Rowell was the Defensive Player of the Year in the Little East Conference.

Junior goalkeeper Christina Auger of William Paterson is the final player to make the All-ECAC first team. Auger was named the NJAC Goaltender of the Year, allowing just 1.15 goals per game. She recorded six shutouts for the season.
