ECAC Announces Men’s Track and Field Athletes of the Month for January
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its Men’s Track and Field Athletes of the Month for January.
Division II
Track Athlete of the Month
Jordan Clark - Lincoln University, Jr.
Clark has been Lincoln's top hurdler this season, recording two top 5 finishes during the month of January. He ranks seventh on the CIAA performance list for the 60 hurdles. He made his collegiate debut in the 60-dash at the Collegeville Classic, placing 14th with a time of 7.31
Field Athlete of the Month
Ralph Casper – West Chester University, Jr.
Casper has received the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week twice this season. At the NYC Gotham Cup Casper won both the weight throw and the shot put with distances of 17.88m and 17.26m respectively. The junior is currently fifth in Division II in the shotput and Casper is also atop the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rankings in the shot put and he's second in the weight throw.
Division III – North
Track Athlete of the Month
Davis Bates – Union College, Jr
Bates was named Liberty League Track Performer of the Week twice as he did not finish lower than third place in his final four races of the month. He won the 800 at the Middlebury Invitational. His 800m time of 1:57.51 at the Utica Invitational ranked fourth in the Atlantic Region at the time and currently ranks first in the Liberty League, sixth regionally and 26th nationally. Bates also currently ranks 18th regionally in the mile with a time of 4:26.33.
Field Athlete of the Month
Mark Shapiro – RPI, Sr
Shapiro continued to post high finishes in January for the engineers. At the Utica Invitational he won the shot put (14.28m) and placed second in the weight throw (16.69m). At Middlebury, he won the weight throw (16.97m). At Harvard’s Crimson Elite he placed first of DIII athletes in the weight throw with a PR of 17.52m. Shapiro was named Liberty League Field Performer of the Week once for his efforts.
Rookie of the Month
Michael Corbitt – St. Lawrence University, Fr
Corbitt was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week on Jan. 27 after winning the 60-meter dash at Middlebury two days earlier with a time of 7.18 seconds. He ranks 21st on the Atlantic Region performance list in the event, fourth among rookies. He was the top collegiate finisher in the 200-meter dash at the St. Lawrence Invitational finishing in 23.40 seconds, good for 28th on the D-III Atlantic Region performance list.
Division III – South
Track Athlete of the Month
Amon Sams – Westminster College, So
Sams Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Track Athlete of the Week one time this month. The sophomore placed sixth of 55 competitors at the Spire Midwest Open in the 60 meters with a time of 7.03 seconds. At the YSU College Invitational and YSU Mid-Major Invitational Sams ran times of 7.11 and 7.10 respectively.
Division III – Metro
Track Athlete of the Month
Dave Etienne – New Jersey City University, So.
Etienne was a two-time NJAC Men's Track of Athlete of the Week during January. He set the meet record at NYU DIII Invitational in the 200 meters with a time of 22.11 seconds on final day of month. He also finished third (of 81) in the 60-meter at NYC DIII Invitational in his first time running the event. At the Collegeville Classic he added a 200-meter victory with a time of 22.57 seconds and a 400-meter victory with a time of 50.82 seconds.
Field Athlete of the Month
Edward Dennerlein – Stockton University, Sr.
At the Gotham Cup Dennerlein’s shot put went 16.95 meters, the furthest throw in NCAA division III this season by over two feet. His other shot put efforts during the month went 16.52 meters and 16.44 meters. He has won NJAC Field Athlete of the Week three times, including the past two weeks in January.
Rookie of the Month
Jon Diaz – New York University, Fr
Diaz posted a 1:55.97 800-meter at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic. The freshman went on to run a 1000-meter in 2:32.23 at the Ramapo College Indoor Opener, good for second in the race. Diaz currently has the fourth-fastest freshman 800-meter time in the nation and leads the entire UAA.

The ECAC exists to enhance the experience of student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics and provides great value for universities and colleges by sponsoring championships, leagues, bowl games, tournaments and other competitions throughout the Northeast.
