ECAC Announces Women's Gymnastics Weekly Awards

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announces its weekly awards winners for women's gymnastics for the week of competition ending Jan 13.

Gymnast of the Week
Ariana Castrence – Temple University, Fr., Waldorf, Maryland
 
Casterence had a stellar performance in her second meet of the season. The freshman took first place for her vault score of 9.825 and her all-around performance of 39.15. Her other event scores of 9.75 on the uneven bars, 9.75 on beam and a 9.825 floor routine helped her take home that first place all-around achievement. Castrence all-around score was all just 0.05 points away from the program’s record.

Specialist of the Week
India Anderson – Temple University, Sr., Allendale, South Carolina
 
Anderson tied her career best score in the floor routine event at the Little Boston Invitational last weekend. Her performance on the floor garnered her a score of 9.85, the best score for the team and tied her for second in the event.

Rookie of the Week
Mei Li Costa – Brown University, Fr., Lawrenceville, New Jersey
 
Costa started her career off with a bang after she was not initially slated to compete in the teams opening trip to Alaska. She competed in both the vault and uneven bars for the Brown Bears scoring a 9.675 on vault and 9.85 on the uneven bars. To add onto her accomplishments her uneven bars score is the second-highest score in school history.

Coaches Choice
Claire Haklik – Cornell University, So., Atlanta, Georgia
 
Haklik was cleared to compete for Cornell just before its departure for the Lindsey Ferris Invitational. The sophomore would go on to start her season by scoring a career-best 9.825 on the floor. A score that placed her sixth overall in the meet.

Gymnast of the Week
Maya Reimers – University of Bridgeport, Jr., New York, New York
 
Reimers began her Junior season off with a couple of top-notch performances. In her first meet of the year she competed on both the beam and floor exercise. She scored a 9.65 on beam and a 9.85 for her floor routine. In her second meet she would compete at both events again while adding in at vault. The second meet consisted of a 9.6 at vault, 9.75 on the beam and a 9.8 floor routine.

Specialist of the Week
Tiffany Coleman – Southern Connecticut State University, Sr., Milford, Connecticut
 
At University of Bridgeport’s quad meet, Coleman started off strong after a year off from rehabbing an injury. The senior would score a 9.7 on vault which was a team high score and placed her at tenth among all competitors.

Rookie of the Week
Ashley Duke –West Chester University, Fr., Fredricksburg, Virginia
 
Duke started her collegiate career off strong as she went three for three against Maryland University. The team started on the balance beam where she scored her best mark of the day with a 9.65. She next competed at vault where she scored a 9.475. Duke finished her day at the uneven bars with a score of 9.6, a mark that tied for the highest on the Golden Rams squad.
 

Coaches Choice 
Kelly Aycock – University of Bridgeport, Sr., Locust Grove, Georgia  
 
Aycock, a senior captain for the Purple Knights, made her return in the season debut after recovering from an injury. She started her year off strong with an uneven bars score of 9.625 and a floor score of 9.825. The second meet of the season was just as good for the senior as she scored a 9.725 on the uneven bars and a 9.675 for her floor routine.
