ECAC Announces Division I Baseball Major Awards & All-ECAC Selections
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2018 Division I Baseball Awards and All-ECAC selections.
Isaiah Pasteur of George Washington University was voted Player of the Year and John Rooney of Hofstra University was named Pitcher of the Year. Outfielder Ryan Ward of Bryant University earned Rookie of the Year, while Northeastern University Head Coach
Mike Glavine was named Coach of the Year to complete the major awards.
Isaiah Pasteur takes home the honor after leading the Atlantic-10 Conference in runs (57), hits (78), total bases (139) and triples (7). He also ranks amongst the top 50 in the NCAA for runs, runs per game, stolen bases, stolen bases per game, total bases and triples. He has 21 multiple-hit games and 13 multi-RBI games and is batting .348 with runners in scoring position and .706 with a runner on third with less than two outs.
Rooney went 8-2 on the hill this year with a 1.23 ERA and 108 strikeouts in 95 innings for the Pride. He threw three complete games and two shutouts, while holding opposing batters to a .166 average. In addition, he rewrote the Hofstra University record book as his ERA and strikeout total are both single season records and his 271 career strikeouts are the most in program history. Rooney is also a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award and the College Baseball Foundation Pitcher of the Year Award.
Following an incredible regular season, Ryan Ward became the first player in Northeast Conference history to win player and rookie of the year honors in the same season and just the sixth to win both awards during a career. In conference games, Ward led the league in average (.451), RBIs (30), doubles (15), triples (3), total bases (91), OBP (.489), slugging (.746) and third in runs scored with 30.
Glavine received Coach of the Year honors after guiding Northeastern University to back-to-back CAA regular-season titles with a 17-6 mark. The Huskies won six of their eight conference series, including four series sweeps. The Huskies also set a new program record for overall victories with 33, including their first-ever victories against the SEC Conference with wins over the University of Missouri and Auburn University.
