ECAC Announces DII Men's Lacrosse Major Awards & All-ECAC Selections
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2018 Division II Men’s Lacrosse All-ECAC Team and Major Award Winners.
A quartet from the New York Institute of Technology swept the major awards this season. LeRoy Halftown received the award for Offensive Player of the Year, while teammate Ian Prate was voted Defensive Player of the Year. Goalie Brian Jockers earned the honor for Rookie of the Year, while their coach Bill Dunn claimed Coach of the Year to complete the major awards.
Halftown was named Offensive Player of the Year after helping the Bears win their second consecutive East Coast Conference (ECC) Tournament Championship. The attacker found the back of the cage 52 times and added 18 assists to compile 70 points on the season. The two-time ECC and ECAC Offensive Player of the Week also was among the Division II leaders in man-up goals, finishing with nine on the year.
Prate also contributed to the Bears securing their second consecutive ECC Tournament Championship. The senior long stick midfielder was among the conference’s leaders in ground balls (63) and caused turnovers (28). The Defensive Player of the Year also earns a spot on the All-ECAC First Team.
Jockers was named Rookie of the Year after compiling a 12-2 record this season. The goalie appeared in 15 games, starting 13 and made 123 saves with a 9.36 goals against average. In the conference championship game against LIU-Post, he made 13 saves on 23 shots in 63 minutes of action as the Bears pulled out an 11-10 victory in overtime.
Bill Dunn led the Bears to a 13-5 record including a perfect 6-0 in conference play, as they earned their second consecutive ECC Conference Tournament title and a berth into the NCAA DII Men’s Lacrosse Tournament. On March 29 at Chestnut Hill College, Dunn achieved a personal milestone as he earned his 100th career win.
