ECAC Announces DI Men's Lacrosse Major Awards & All-ECAC Selections
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2018 Division I Men’s Lacrosse Awards and All-ECAC selections.
Ben Reeves from Yale University takes home Offensive Player of the Year, while Loyola University-Maryland’s Foster Huggins garnered Defensive Player of the Year. Chris Gray of Boston University claimed the Rookie of the Year award and Andy Shay of Yale University received the Coach of the Year honor.
Ben Reeves is a two-time All-American and leads top-ranked Yale University with 53 goals and 96 points in 17 games this season. The Offensive Player of the Years was also voted as Ivy League Player of the Year as well as First-Team All-Ivy League. Yale’s career goals and points leader was the fourth overall pick in the 2018 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft to the Dallas Rattlers.
Foster Huggins was named Defensive Player of the Year as he has collected 42 groundballs through 16 games this season. Huggins also leads the nation in caused turnovers with 51. The senior nabbed six Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week accolades this season. The defender posted two or more caused turnovers in 14 of the Greyhounds’ 16 games this year and has three or more in 11 of those contests.
Chris Gray of Boston University was named Rookie of the Year, after compiling 31 goals and 71 points for the Terriers. He notched at least five points in seven games, including a school-record 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists) at Harvard University on March 20. Gray recorded at least one point in 16 games of the 17 games and also added 18 ground balls. Added to the 2018 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, Gray was the only freshman on the All-Patriot League First Team.
Andy Shay was named Coach of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to an outright Ivy League title and a perfect 7-0 mark in league action for the first time in program history. The Bulldogs, ranked No. 1 in the latest USILA Poll, earned the top seed in the Ivy League tournament this season.
