ECAC Announces Women's Gymnastics Weekly Honors
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announces its weekly awards winners for women's gymnastics for the week of competition ending Mar. 4.
Division I
Gymnast of the Week
Taylor White – The College of William & Mary, So., Chesterfield, Virginia
White was instrumental last weekend for the Tribe as they put up the third-best score in school history. The teams score was 195.10 against West Chester university. White competed in all four events setting a couple of new career highs along the way. She won the beam title with a new career-high mark of 9.8 and tied her career highs on vault (9.675) and bars (9.75). Her score helped William & Mary set a new school record on the event with a 49.125. To finish up her competition she completed a floor routine for a score of 9.5. When all was done she finished second in the all-around with a new career high mark of 38.725.
Specialist of the Week
Samantha Henry – Cornell University, So., Maple Grove, Minnesota
The sophomore had a stellar performance in her lone event for the Big Red this past weekend. Henry competed with a floor routine that tied the Cornell floor record that hasn’t been hit in over a decade. She is also only the second gymnast in school history to achieve a mark that high on any event.
Rookie of the Week
Katie Waldman – The College of William & Mary, Fr., Omaha, Nebraska
Waldman helped William & Mary achieve its third-best score in school history last weekend. She won the all-around competition with a mark of 39.3 which is second-best in school history. She has the meet’s top score in three of the four events. Vault with a 9.825, bars, 9.875 and floor 9.825. Her score on the bars is a new career high and is tied for third in school history. The floor score is also a new career high for the freshman. To round out the all-around score she set a career high on beam with a score of 9.775.
Coaches Choice
Erin Howell – Brown University, So., Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey
Erin Howell, a sophomore from Egg Harbor Township competed in her first meet of the season last weekend. Howell was not supposed to compete but after a teammate was unable to compete on bars last minute, Howell stepped in. She went second on bars and put up her second-best score of her career with a 9.675.
Division II
Gymnast of the Week
Kathryn Doran – University of Bridgeport, Fr., Oakville, Ontario
Doran a freshman from Oakville Ontario had a stellar meet setting a couple of new career best scores. Her new career marks came on her bars routine with a 9.9 and her floor routine with a 9.725. She also scored a 9.55 on vault and a 9.8 for her beam routine. In total she scored 38.975 for her all-around score. All her scores counted toward the Purple Knights new season high mark of 194.8.
Specialist of the Week
Madison Brent – West Chester University, Sr., Waxhaw, North Carolina
Brent competed in just one event last weekend against The College of William & Mary setting a new career high. She completed a floor routine that tied her for first place and a career-high score of 9.825.
Rookie of the Week
Lauren Ramirez – University of Bridgeport, Fr., Gilbert, Arizona
Ramirez anchored the beam for the Purple Knights last weekend as they competed at Brown University in a quad meet. After a fall from a teammate in the rotation, Ramirez stepped up and posted a score of 9.75 to help aid the team in their victory at the quad meet.
Coaches Choice
Emily Balasco – Southern Connecticut State University, Fr., Seekonk, Massachusetts
Balasco and the Owl’s competed at Brown this past weekend in a quad meet that featured fellow ECAC foe University of Bridgeport. Balasco competed in three events but just one of them scored for the Owls. Her two exhibition events came on the vault and floor where she hit on both of the events. She scored a 9.575 for the beam routine.
