ECAC Announces Women's Gymnastics Weekly Honors
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announces its weekly honors for women's gymnastics for the week of competition ending Mar. 11.
Division I
Gymnast of the Week
Daisy Todd – Temple University, So., San Jose, California
2017 ECAC co-rookie of the year Daisy Todd earns her first weekly award of 2018. She was a key part in a record setting weekend for the Owls. To start off on Friday against University of Pennsylvania and Maryland University Todd helped the Owls set a new program record with a 195.8. She contributed a season-high 9.8 on vault, 9.775 on bars and a 9.675 on beam. On Sunday against Rutgers, Lindenwood and Eastern Michigan, Todd had all her scores count toward the programs new record score of 196.05. She started off on vault where she scored a 9.725. then on the uneven bars she scored a 9.825 one of Temple’s top scorers. To finish off her competition and help the Owls to that new program record she added another 9.825 on the balance beam.
Specialist of the Week
Jaylene Everett – Temple University, So., Harleysville, Pennsylvania
Everett helped Temple to what was a historic weekend for the Owls. On Friday she scored new career high on vault with a 9.875 good enough for third place. She followed that up later in the day with a floor exercise routine tying her career high of 9.875. The marks helped the team to new team record of 195.8. The team score did not last long as it was broken on Sunday ad Everett and the Owls continued their historic weekend. First on vault she scored a 9.85 which placed her in third. She followed that up with a career high and first place finish on floor with a 9.925. Everett is now just the second Owl in program history to earn a 9.925 for a floor exercise routine and the first since 2002.
Rookie of the Week
Tori Edwards – Temple university, Fr., Haymarket, Virginia
Edwards was instrumental in what was a historic weekend for Temple University Women’s Gymnastics. On Friday she led the floor lineup scoring a 9.9 which helped set a new floor exercise record for Temple at 49.150. On the uneven bars she scored a 9.825 and on vault scored a 9.775. Each mark helped Temple set a new team score record that would be broken just two days later. Sunday Edwards competed in the all-around against Eastern Michigan, Lindenwood and Rutgers. She scored a 9.825 on vault, 9.7 on bars, 9.8 on beam and a 9.8 on floor. This helped her set a new career-best all-around score of 39.125 to win the all-around title. The marks also helped Temple to set the new program record of 196.05.
Coaches Choice
Megan Ryan – Yale University, Sr., Colorado Springs, Colorado
Senior Megan Ryan started her career at Yale as an all-around performer. Over her time at Yale she has learned to hone her skills on the uneven bars. Heading into a meet this weekend against Kentucky, New Hampshire and ECAC rival Brown, she wasn’t sure if she would be able to compete after not finishing warm-ups. She however did compete on the uneven bars almost setting a new season-best score earning a 9.7 for her routine.
Division II
Gymnast of the Week
Kathleen Aberger – Southern Connecticut State University, Sr., Plano, Texas
Aberger and the Owls competed at Maryland University this past weekend in a five-team meet. In the three events that she competed in Aberger finished inside the top-20 in all of them. She finished sixth on beam with a score of 9.725, twentieth on bars with a score of 9.6 and a new personal-best score of 9.875 for her floor routine. Her floor score claimed her third place and the top placement for the Owls during competition. Her mark on the floor also helped Southern Connecticut State set a new team season best score.
Specialist of the Week
Kelli Tereshko – University of Bridgeport, Sr., Madison, Indiana
Tereshko makes a return to the weekly awards as specialist of the week. She had an outstanding week in which she competed in two meets for the Purple Knights. On Thursday against New Hampshire she placed third with a score of 9.8 on bars. She improved on Sunday when the team competed at the University of Maryland’s five team meet. She had a .05 improvement to raise her uneven bars score to 9.85.
Rookie of the Week
Melanie Wojewoda – West Chester University, Fr., Amelia, Ohio
Wojewoda continues to have an impressive freshman campaign as she helped the Golden Rams finish second on the uneven bars at Maryland this past weekend. Overall, she scored a 9.825 which placed her at fourth overall on the event.
Coaches Choice
Alexandra Avendano – Southern Connecticut State University, Sr., Burlington, Massachusetts
Avendano tied to be Southern’s top scorer on vault this past weekend with a score of 9.625. The mark landed her in 14
th place at Maryland’s five-team meet last weekend. She also competed with a floor exercise score of 9.825 to help contribute to the team’s new floor exercise record. The 9.825 score landed her at 11
th place for the meet.
