LATROBE, Pa. - Saint Vincent set the tone for its ECAC DIII Women's Basketball Championships opening round game in the first three minutes, breaking out on a 9-0 lead and building it a little at a time en route to a 73-50 win over Pfeiffer University Wednesday night.

While Pfeiffer managed to cut the game to 3-points, 12-9, in the first quarter, that was the closest the Falcons came to taking a lead. St. Vincent responded with a 6-0 lead and outscored the Falcons by eight, seven and seven in the first three quarters to build a 22-point lead, 57-35, entering the final 10 minutes. The Bearcats' largest lead was 25 points.

The host Bearcats shot 41.9 percent from the floor, while holding Pfeiffer (20-5) to 26.6 percent for the game and only four 3-pointers.

Babette Sammartin and Taylor Boring led the Bearcats' offense with 11 points apiece, while Paige Montrose and Maria Morgan had 10 each. Mara Benvenuti, who led SVC with 10 rebounds, and Kayla Slovenec followed with nine and eight points, respectively.

Montrose balanced her stat line through the night, adding seven rebounds, four blocks and four assists to her 10 points.

Dajea Scott led Pfeiffer's offense with 14 points.

Saint Vincent (19-9) will meet NYU in the ECAC Quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Friday, March 2, played at Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pa.
