ECAC Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week for Week Ending Feb. 11.
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Women's Basketball Players of the Week for the week ending Feb. 11.
DIVISION II
Player of the Week
Mia Hopkins - Sr., F, West Chester University
Mia Hopkins performed well this past week as she averaged 17.5 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game and six assists per game. The senior also contributed an impressive five steals per game over the course of two Golden Ram victories this past week. Hopkins shot an impressive 15-for-23, 65.2 percent from the field and 40 percent from deep. She dominated against Cheyney University on Saturday afternoon as she recorded a triple-double with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 12 assists.
Rookie of the Week
Amber Brown - Fr., F, Mercy College
Brown averaged 18 points and eight rebounds on 45.5 percent shooting in two games this week for Mercy College. The freshman had six points and eight rebounds against Saint Thomas Aquinas College to start the week, before a career-high-tying 30 points on 9-of-13 shooting along with eight rebounds and three assists at the University of the District of Columbia.
DIVISION III - Metro
Player of the Week
Andrea Iavarone - Sr., F, St. Joseph's College- Long Island
Andrea Iavarone averaged 22.3 points, 20.3 rebounds and six blocks per game for the Golden Eagles' last week. The senior shot 53.1 percent (26-for-49) from the floor and 83.3 percent (15-for-18) from the charity stripe. The forward picked up a triple-double (25 points, 24 rebounds, 10 blocks) against St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn, before netting 21 points to set the mark as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,443 points against Yeshiva University. To end week, against SUNY-Old Westbury, Iavarone set the programs' single-season rebounds mark with her 358th board of the year.
Rookie of the Week
Melinda Spahiu - Fr., G, Baruch College
Melinda Spahiu led the Baruch College Bearcats to a 2-1 week, averaging 13.3 points, 11.3 rebounds and six assists per game. The rookie amassed 15 points and nine rebounds in a loss to Brooklyn College and poured in a week-high 19 points in a 75-74 win over Hunter College. To end the week against Medgar Evers College, Spahiu scored six points with 15 rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 70-33 victory.
DIVISION III - North
Player of the Week
Sophie Nick - So., F, Vassar College
Sophie Nick averaged 17.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, and one block in three games for Vassar College last week. The sophomore kicked off the week with a 16 point 12 rebound double-double in a 55-51 win at Skidmore College. Nick then had 13 points and five rebounds in a 58-54 loss at Rochester Institute of Technology. The forward followed that up with 22 points and nine rebounds in a 55-50 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. For the week, the sophomore shot 52.6 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from the three-point line, and 90.0 percent at the charity stripe.
Rookie of the Week
Katie Frederick - Fr., G, St. Lawrence University
Frederick led the St. Lawrence University Saints to a 1-1 weekend in conference play, defeating Union College 42-37 before falling to Ithaca College 52-42. The rookie recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 17 points (7-for-14, 50 percent) and 16 rebounds in the loss to Ithaca. She also added five points and eight rebounds in the win over Union. For the week, Frederick averaged 11 points and 12 rebounds per game.
DIVISION III - SOUTH
Player of the Week
Lexie Arkwright - Sr., G, Grove City College
Arkwright averaged 24.0 points, six rebounds and 4.5 steals per game, in wins at Geneva College and Westminster College. She went 19-of-36, (52.8 percent) from the field with 22 points, seven boards and four steals in a 72-53 win at Geneva. Over the weekend, Arkwright contributed 26 points while adding five rebounds and five steals in a 61-45 victory at Westminster. The senior eclipsed the 1,500-point threshold for her career (1,515) and also moved into third place on Grove City's career three-point list with 122.
Rookie of the Week
Alie Seto - Fr., F, Washington & Jefferson College
Alie Seto averaged 17.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, two assists and 1.5 steals per game lin a pair of wins for Washington & Jefferson College last week. The rookie shot 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the floor and knocked down 10-of-12 free throw attempts. Against Thiel College, Seto led all scorers with a season-high 26 points on 8-of-10 shooting to go along with seven boards, two assists and a pair of steals in a 95-48 victory. In a 77-63 win over Bethany College to end the week, Seto contributed eight points with two rebounds, two assists and a steal.
