ECAC Announces 2018 DIII Football Major Awards & All-ECAC Teams
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2018 Division IIII Football All-ECAC Teams and Major Awards.
Connor Cox from Frostburg University was voted Offensive Player of the Year, while Frankie Feaster from Muhlenberg College won Defensive Player of the Year. Andre Ross Jr. from Union College took home Offensive Rookie of the Year and Anthony Bassani from Kean University is awarded Defensive Rookie of the Year. First year head coach Nate Milne wins Coach of the Year.
Connor Cox, a senior from Davidson, MD. had a terrific final year on campus. He was named to the All-NJAC First Team and was awarded NJAC Player of the Year. Cox guided the Bobcats to a 10-1 record throwing for 2,623 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also ran for 246 yards on the season and 7 scores. Cox was second in the country in yards per attempt (10.85) third in passing efficiency (194.4) and fourth in yards per completion (16.68). He leaves Frostburg as the career leader in passing yards, touchdowns and completions.
Frankie Feaster, a junior from Montvale, N.J. was a force on the defensive line. He tallied thirteen and a half sacks which placed him in the top five in Division III. Feaster also took down the ball carrier for a loss 19 times and forced three fumbles during the season. He was also disruptive in the passing game with 10 pass break-ups and an interception. For his efforts on the field Feaster was named Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
Ross Jr. had an outstanding freshman year for Union. He totaled 57 receptions for 929 and 13 touchdowns. He had an impressive 16.3 yards per catch. His 13 receiving touchdowns are four more than any other freshman receiver for all levels of college football. Ross Jr. is also the only freshman to average more than 100 yards receiving per game, 103.2 to be exact. He was named to the All-Liberty League First Team and was named Liberty League Rookie of the Year.
Kean University freshman Anthony Bassani tops his year off with his second Defensive Rookie of the Year honor. He was also named NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Year after recording four interceptions, 38 tackles, one and a half sacks and a lone pass break-up. Bassani was also named NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Week twice in 2018.
Nate Milne's first season at the helm for the Mules was a successful one. Milne led the team to an 11-2 record which is tied for the most in school history. The 11 wins is also a school record and Centennial Conference record for most wins by a first-year head coach. He would guide the team to its first ever NCAA quarter finals appearance and was also be named Centennial Conference Coach of the Year.
