ECAC Announces 2018 DI FCS Football Major Awards & All-ECAC Teams
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2018 Division I FCS All-ECAC Teams and Major Awards.
Tom Flacco from Towson University was voted Offensive Player of the Year, while Cam Gill from Wagner College won Defensive Player of the Year. Juwon Farri from Monmouth University took home Rookie of the Year, and Dan Hunt of Colgate University won Coach of the Year.
Flacco, a redshirt junior from Vorhees, NJ had a fantastic year for Towson under center, completing 61.3 percent of his passes for 3251 yards and 28 touchdowns. In addition, Flacco added 742 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns on the ground. For his efforts this season Flacco was named the CAA Offensive Player of the Year and All-CAA First Team Quarterback.
Gill, a Junior from Douglasville, GA became just the second Wagner player to ever win NEC Defensive Player of the year honors and is one of 25 finalists for the Buck Buchanan Award, given annually to FCS football's defensive player of the year. Gill wreaked havoc in the opponent's backfield this season, racking up 13.5 sacks for -76 yards which ranked 4th nationally. He additionally made 24 tackles for loss, ranking second nationally.
Farri, a Freshman from Germantown, MD led the Hawks in rushing as well as the Big South with 1,024 yards on 139 carries after only starting six games. Farri set a school record with his 7.4 yards per carry average, which was 5th in FCS this season. Farri was named Big South Offensive Rookie of the Year, First Team All-Big South running back and Freshman of the Week four times in the Big South.
Coach Hunt led the Colgate Raiders to a 10-2 record and was named Patriot League Coach of the Year for third time in four seasons after having won three of the last four Patriot League titles. The Raiders reached 10 victories in a season for just fourth time and first since 2003 and progressed into the NCAA playoff quarterfinals for second time in four years. Colgate got off to a 9-0 start this year for the first time since 2003 and tied an FCS record with five shutouts in one season.
