ECAC Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week for Week Ending Jan. 21.
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Women's Basketball Players of the Week for the week ending Jan. 21.
DIVISION II
Player of the Week
Brielle Kelly - Sr., F, Mansfield University
Mansfield University went 2-0 last week in conference action behind Kelly. They opened the week with a 71-54 victory over Shippensburg University. In the game, Kelly was 8-for-17 from the field with 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Later in the week, Mansfield defeated Bloomsburg University 63-53. For the game, Kelly was 8-of-15 from the field with 30 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Kelly connected on 50 percent (16-of-32) of her shots over the two games and 93.3 percent (14-of-15) of her free throws.
Rookie of the Week
Sydney Mitchell - Fr., G, Gannon University
Mitchell recorded a career-high 14 points, including four three-pointers to help down the Mercyhurst University Lakers, 85-57. She also picked up six rebounds, two blocks and two assists in 25 minutes. The freshman followed that up with 11 points against Millersville University of Pennsylvania on three-of-six shooting from behind the arc. Mitchell also stuffed the stat sheet with three steals, three rebounds, two assists and a block against the Marauders.
DIVISION III - Metro
Player of the Week
Sasha Williams - Sr., F, Stockton University
Williams averaged 26.0 points, 11.5 bounds, three blocks, 2.5 assists, and two steals, while shooting 58 percent (22-38) from the floor. The senior drained 25 points and pulled down 11 boards, while adding three blocks, an assist, and a steal as the Ospreys held on to defeat then-second-place Rowan University in a key conference matchup. She followed up with a 27-point, 12-rebound effort in a win over Ramapo College, while contributing four assists, three blocks, and three steals. Williams currently leads the nation in total blocks (68), and needs just eight more to move into the second place spot on the NCAA all-time blocks list.
Rookie of the Week
Melinda Spahiu - Fr., G, Baruch College
Spahiu tallied 19.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for the Bearcats. She posted a double-double (14 points, 14 rebounds) at Hunter College and ripped off a 24-point, 11-rebound performance in a 74-72 victory at York College.
DIVISION III - North
Player of the Week
Dani Reinwald - Sr., F, Medaille College
Reinwald had another huge week for the Medaille College Mavericks. The senior led the Mavericks to a 2-0 week with a 74-63 home win against D'Youville College and then a 65-62 overtime win against the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. The forward started the week off with a triple-double against the Spartans, recording 16 points, 23 rebounds, 11 steals, five assists and five blocks. Reinwald followed that up with a double-double against UPG, as she finished with 12 points, 18 rebounds and three blocks. For the week, Reinwald averaged 14.0 points, 20.5 rebounds, 5.5 steals, four blocks, and three assists.
Rookie of the Week
Amanda Figueroa – Fr., G, Alfred University
First-year guard Amanda Figueroa had an amazing showing last week against Elmira College. She set her new career-highs in points (27), field goals made and attempted (8-of-14 for 57.1%), free throws made and attempted (8-of-10 for 80.0%) and steals with six. She also recorded seven rebounds (five defensive and two offensive) and made three 3-pointers on the evening.
DIVISION III - SOUTH
Player of the Week
Kelsea Daugherty - Sr., F, Bethany College
Daugherty posted averages of 22.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and two assists per game during Bethany's 2-0 week. She knocked down 58.1 percent (18-of-31) of her attempts from the floor and went 8-of-9 (88.9%) from the charity stripe. In a 66-63 win over Waynesburg University, Daugherty finished 13-of-19 from the field and registered career highs in points (32), rebounds (16) and steals (5) while playing all 40 minutes. Earlier in the week in a 77-40 victory over Chatham University, Daugherty shot 5-of-12 from the field, picked up nine rebounds, two assists and 12 points.
Rookie of the Week
Makayla Reynolds - Fr., F, Bethany College
Reynolds averaged 16.0 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting at a 73.7 percent (14-of-19) clip last week for 2-0 Bethany College. The rookie finished with a game-high 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting to go along with seven boards in last weeks win at Chatham University.
