ECAC Announces Corvias Softball Players of the Week

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Corvias Softball Players of the Week for the week ending April 30.
 
DIVISION II
 
Player of the Week
Marisa Monasseri – Caldwell University, Sr.
 
Monasseri batted .619 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in eight games last week. She added three doubles and scored three runs for the Cougars. Monasseri went 4-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs in a sweep against Dominican College that secured the regular season title for Caldwell. She ended the week with a 5-for-7 effort with four RBIs and two doubles in a sweep over Queens College.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Amanda Houck – West Chester University, Jr., P
 
Houck collected four wins last week, which helped her break the school record for wins in a single season and clinch the PSAC Eastern Division crown for the fourth-straight season. Houck accounted for 30 innings, while surrendering seven earned runs in the process. She hurled a pair of complete-game victories against East Stroudsburg and Shippensburg. The junior suffered her only loss against Kutztown, after throwing eight scoreless innings and allowing two runs to score in the ninth. She also tallied 10 strikeouts for the Golden Rams.
 
Rookie of the Week
Rachel Tanilli – Gannon University, Fr., OF
 
Tanilli had an outstanding week for the Lady Knights. She batted .500 for the week, going 6-for-12 from the plate while scoring six runs and producing nine RBIs in four games. She clubbed two home runs and two doubles, recording a 1.167 slugging percentage. Her best came at California (Pa.) going 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs.
 
DIVISION III - METRO
 
Player of the Week
Alicia Marino – Manhattanville College, Sr., 3B
 
Marino provided plenty of runs for the Valiants in a 5-3 week. Marino batted .483 (14-for-29) and slugged 1.000 while totaling 14 RBIs, seven runs scored, four home runs and three doubles. She had at least one RBI in six of eight games. Marino went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored against Hunter in game two. She drove in three runs and scored twice in a comeback win over Western Connecticut. Marino then went 4-for-8 with two RBIs, two runs scored, a double and a home run against Wilkes. She finished the week going 4-for-6 with four RBIs, a run scored, a double and a home run against Ithaca.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Allison Podmajersky – William Paterson University, Sr., P
 
Podmajersky threw two complete-game shutouts, including a no-hitter in the nightcap win over NJCU. She struck out 10 in that win, and added nine strikeouts in a win over Rutgers-Camden. Podmajersky ranks second in the NJAC in conference-only ERA (1.07) and fourth in conference-only opposing batting average (.217).
 
Rookie of the Week
Lauren Shannon – Rowan University, Fr., P
 
Shannon closed out the regular season with two more wins. She went 2-1 on the week with 11 strikeouts and a 2.55 ERA in 11.0 innings. She earned the wins in both games against Rutgers-Newark, pitching three innings in each game. She gave up just one hit while striking out three in the opening game, and held the Scarlet Raiders without a hit in the nightcap while earning credit for the combined shutout. She struck out six while taking the loss to regular-season champ Ramapo.
 
DIVISION III – NEW ENGLAND
 
Player of the Week
Tamara Aunchman – Husson University, Fr., 3B/1B
 
Aunchman helped her team finish out the regular season with a 4-2 record on the week, including a 3-1 mark in NAC action to claim the top-seed in the upcoming NAC Tournament. The rookie batted .450 (9-for-20) on the week and slugged an .800, while recording three scored runs, six RBIs, two home runs, one double and two walks. In a crucial 3-1 win over Castleton, Aunchman belted a two-run home run to score the game-winning run. Earlier in the week, the infielder also knocked another one out of the park in Husson's 11-5 win over Bates and went 4-for-7 in the two-game series with the Bobcats. To end the week in a doubleheader sweep of NEC, Aunchman went 3-for-7 with two RBIs and a walk. Defensively, she helped out immensely picking up 37 putouts and two assists on 42 total chances. 
 
Pitcher of the Week
Kayla Wood – Castleton University, Sr., P/Utility
 
Wood was dominant once again last week, racking up a 3-0 record over three starts in conference action. The senior made four appearances on the week, tossing 20.0 innings and striking out a staggering 31 batters. She allowed just one earned run in her time in the circle, good for a 0.35 ERA and finished the week by throwing 13 consecutive scoreless innings. Wood opened the week with a win on the road over the NAC's third-ranked team, Thomas, going the distance and striking out six in a 3-2 victory. She allowed just one earned run in the last inning of play and scattered seven hits without walking a batter. Last Tuesday against Lyndon, Wood carried a perfect game into the fourth inning, finishing the game with eight punchouts and just allowed one hit. In Castleton's biggest games of the season, Wood stepped up her performance, working 9.0 scoreless innings over two appearances against Husson. She opened the day with yet another dazzling performance, as she was perfect for 4.1 innings before allowing a base hit, one of just two hits she allowed on the day. She struck out 15 batters in the complete-game win, as the Spartans topped Husson 1-0 in the opener. In game two, she came into the game in the sixth inning, working two scoreless innings to close the game and keep Castleton within striking distance in a narrow defeat to the Eagles. Against Husson, she struck out 17 batters on the day and allowed just five runners to reach base in nine innings.
 
Rookie of the Week
Madi McLellan – Regis College, Fr., P
 
McLellan allowed just one earned run in 21 innings pitched last week for the Pride. The freshman had a one-hitter in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader against Becker in which she combined for 24 strikeouts in the two games. Regis went 1-1 on Saturday, losing 1-0 in the first game off an unearned run. McLellan tallied a 10:1 strikeout to walk ratio on the week.
 
DIVISION III – NORTH
 
Player of the Week
Stefanie Miller – SUNY Canton, Jr., OF

Miller hit a remarkable .667 (14-for-21) with two home runs, 11 runs, 14 RBIs, a .708 on-base percentage and 1.095 slugging percentage in a 5-2 week for the Roos. The junior opened the week going 4-for-5 with three runs, three walks and drove in six runs with a pair of three-run homers in a 15-5 win in the nightcap as Canton split a doubleheader with Wells. She went 1-for-2 with a double in a loss to St. Lawrence. Miller hit 9-for-14 with eight runs and drove in eight more in a 4-0 weekend against SUNY Delhi on Saturday and Sunday to improve the Roos to 19-11 on the season.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Lindsey Thayer – St. John Fisher College, Jr., P
 
Thayer went 4-0 last week as the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College softball team extended its winning streak to 14 games after going 6-0 on the week. Thayer combined to post a 0.33 earned run average after allowing just one run in 21.0 innings of work. She struck out 49 and surrendered just nine hits in all while opposing hitters batted a paltry .123 against her. Thayer collected both wins in a doubleheader against Rochester on Tuesday with 27 total strikeouts before throwing back-to-back complete games against Brockport and Utica College, respectively.
 
Rookie of the Week
Haleigh Agans – Plattsburgh State, Fr., 1B/DP
 
Agans batted .524 (11-for-21) and slugged .762 in a 4-2 week for the Cardinals. She also drove in five runs, scored twice and added a triple. In a doubleheader sweep of Middlebury College last Wednesday she batted 6-for-9. On Friday she went 2-for-6 with a three-run home run in a doubleheader split with Buffalo State. Finally, on Saturday, she batted 3-for-6 in a doubleheader split with Fredonia to help the Cardinals lock up the No. 3 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament.
 
DIVISION III – SOUTH
 
Player of the Week
Shelby Noel – Saint Vincent College, Jr., 1B

Noel hit .467 (7-of-15) with a double, three home runs, five RBIs and four runs scored. She put together a 1.133 slugging percentage and .467 on-base percentage to help the Bearcats secure the number three seed in this weekend’s PAC Championship Tournament.

Pitcher of the Week
Samantha Emert – Saint Vincent College, Sr., P

Emert went 2-1 with a 1.05 earned-run average over the final week of the regular season. The Bearcats' ace worked 20.0 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on 16 hits while combining to strike out 22. Opponents hit .211 against her during last week’s four-game stretch.

Rookie of the Week
Liz Scherer – Grove City College, Fr., C
 
Scherer hit .412 (5-of-12) during a 3-1 week for the Wolverines while posting a .467 on-base percentage and a .583 slugging percentage. She went 4-for-7 with three doubles in a doubleheader against Westminster. In Grove City's game two win, she led off the 11th inning with a double and scored the game-winning run in the Wolverines' 3-2 triumph.
