ECAC Announces Corvias Baseball Players of the Week

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Corvias Baseball Players of the Week for the week ending March 26.
 
DIVISION II
 
Player of the Week
Garrett De Lotto – Pace University, Sr., 1B
 
De Lotto batted .414 with an on-base percentage of .514 and slugging percentage of .655 across eight games this past week. He also totaled eight RBIs, eight runs and five extra-base hits. De Lotto had a hit in all eight games during the week, including four multi-hit games. He went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, a run and a double in last Thursday's win over Concordia. On Saturday, De Lotto hit 3-for-7 with two runs, two RBI and a double in a doubleheader sweep of Saint Michael's. He batted 4-for-8 with two runs, two RBI and two triples in Sunday's sweep of Saint Anselm.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Aaron Jackson – Gannon University, R-Sr., P
 
Jackson went 1-0 with a 4.05 ERA during two starts last week. He limited the opposition to a .286 average and held opposing hitters to a .071 average (1-14) with runners on base. Jackson began the week by tossing 1.2 scoreless innings while receiving a no-decision during an 18-6 non-conference victory against Lake Erie, allowing only two hits. Later he improved to 3-0 with five innings of work during a 9-8 victory at Seton Hill, helping Gannon secure its first-ever road win at Seton Hill in seven attempts. Jackson left the game with a 9-3 lead after five innings, striking out seven.
 
Rookie of the Week
David Deberardinis – Mercy College, Fr., OF/P
 
Deberardinis earned the win on the mound in the series finale against Bridgeport, posting a complete game and not allowing an earned run, while striking out four to earn his first collegiate win. The freshman also went 2-for-5 at the plate in two games against Le Moyne earlier in the week.
 
DIVISION III - METRO
 
Player of the Week
Zeph Walters – Stevens Institute of Technology, Sr., OF/1B
 
Walters hit .533 (8-for-15) with three home runs, four runs scored, eight RBIs, a .529 on-base percentage and a 1.133 slugging percentage in a 3-1 week for the Ducks. He finished the week with three multi-hit games including a 3-for-4 effort with four RBIs in a 13-5 win against Houghton. To start last week, the senior had two hits versus nationally ranked Kean. Walters also added three more hits against Houghton in the three-game series.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Ryan Kennedy – College of Staten Island, Sr., P

Kennedy was a hard-luck 2-1 loser to Manhattanville last Sunday, a game in which the only two runs allowed came unearned. The senior went 5.2 innings, striking out three and walking one while holding the Valiants to just four hits. For the season, Kennedy is the only CSI pitcher yet to allow an earned run as he is 1-1 with a 0.00 ERA.
 
Rookie of the Week
Justin Hernandez – Kean University, Fr., P
 
Hernandez went eight innings in a win over Farmingdale State, not allowing an earned run and striking out three to improve to 4-0 on the year. Hernandez currently ranks second among all NJAC pitchers with a scant 0.68 ERA with just two earned runs over 26.1 innings of work in his rookie season.
 
DIVISION III – NEW ENGLAND
 
Pitcher of the Week
Jimmy Fitzgerald – Salve Regina University, Jr., LHP
 
Fitzgerald tossed a seven-inning shutout over No. 22/30 Western New England to open Salve Regina’s conference slate with a 1-0 win. The lefthander scattered five hits and walked two, while fanning nine in the complete game victory. 
 
Rookie of the Week
Patrick Maybach – Salve Regina University, Fr., LHP
 
Maybach continued to impress in his second start for the Seahawks. He threw seven innings of shutout ball to earn the win in a non-conference matchup with Keene State. He struck out 10 batters, while walking none and allowing just five hits. The lefthander was also able to pick off two baserunners.
 
DIVISION III – NORTH
 
Player of the Week
Steven Figueroa – SUNY Cortland, Sr., 2B/3B

Figueroa batted an impressive .692 (9-for-13) with four walks in a 4-0 week for the Red Dragons. He also handled 18 fielding chances (eight putouts, 10 assists) at second and third base without an error. Figueroa went 2-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs in a 5-2 win at Fredonia last Thursday, followed by going a combined 5-for-7 with a double, walk, three RBIs and four runs scored in a doubleheader sweep of the Blue Devils Friday. On Sunday he went 2-for-3 with a triple, walk, sac bunt, RBIs and two runs scored in an 11-3 win at Rochester. Figueroa finished the week with a .765 on-base percentage and .923 slugging percentage.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Dan DePaoli – Hamilton College, Jr., P


DePaoli tossed his first career complete-game shutout in a 3-0 win against Bowdoin in a non-league game in Florida on March 20. In his only appearance of the week, DePaoli struck out a career-high 10 batters and walked just three.
 
Rookie of the Week
Jake Hertz – University of Rochester, Fr., OF
 
Hertz hit .556 (5-9) over two games on Sunday, a 1-1 split for Rochester. In the opener, a win versus Brockport, Hertz was 3-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored while also stealing a base. Against No. 2 Cortland in game two, he was 2-4 with a double and a walk.
 
DIVISION III – SOUTH
 
Player of the Week
Bryan Gillen – Arcadia University, So., RF
 
Gillen finished the week batting .563 (9-for-16) with eight RBIs, three runs scored and was 8-for-8 on stolen bases. In a 4-1 week in conference play, the sophomore also slugged .938 with three doubles, a home run, four walks and a .667 on-base percentage. Gillen opened a three-game sweep of Stevenson going 5-for-5 with five runs scored, two RBIs, three triples, a home run and a walk. He finished the three-game series with the Mustangs going 8-for-9 with seven runs scored, three RBIs, three doubles, three walks, a home run and seven stolen bases.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Andrew Scholz – Arcadia University, Fr., SP
 
Scholtz recorded his first shutout victory of his collegiate career with a complete-game 3-0 shutout over Stevenson in conference action. The freshman allowed no runs for a 0.00 ERA for the week while striking out a career-best nine batters. Scholz allowed just five hits and walked four while holding batters to a .208 average. The freshman is now 3-0 on the season with a 1.53 ERA.
 
Rookie of the Week
Austin Wacker – Grove City College, Fr., P/OF
 
Wacker earned a win and a save last Saturday against Geneva. He earned the save with a scoreless 11th inning in the completion of Grove City’s suspended game with Geneva, a 9-8 Wolverine win. He then started the first game of Saturday’s scheduled doubleheader, allowing two hits in 6.0 scoreless innings. Wacker struck out six and did not walk a man in his start. Opponents hit .087 against him.
