ECAC Announces Women's Cross Country Athletes of the Week for Week Ending Oct. 8

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Women’s Cross Country Athletes of the Week for the week ending Oct. 8.
 
DIVISION II
Runner of the Week
Hannah Kusmierz – SO, King University
 
Kusmierz set a personal record at the Gene Mullin Invitational, covering the five-kilometer distance in 20:21.12. That time gave her a 13th place finish, leading King to an overall finish of seventh and a fifth-place showing among Division II competition.
 
Rookie of the Week
Meredith Morse – FR, Gannon University
 
Morse led Gannon to a runner-up finish at the Gannon/Mercyhurst Invitational. The rookie tied her season-best finish, running the five-kilometer event in 20:28.9 and finishing in fourth place out of 23 runners. She was Gannon’s top runner for the fifth-consecutive week, beating the next Gannon runner by 32 seconds.
 

DIVISION III – Metro
Runner of the Week
Veronica Wheeler – SR, DeSales University
 
Wheeler took home first place individually at the DeSales Cross Country Invitational. The senior won the individual title placing first by more than 29 seconds with a time of 22:07.4. She won the six-kilometer race against a field of 225 runners that consisted of Division II and III competitors. Wheeler led the Bulldogs to a fourth-place team finish out of 22 teams.
 
Rookie of the Week
Meagan Haviland – FR, St Joseph’s College- Long Island
 
Haviland was the top non-Division I freshman finisher at the Highlander Cross Country Challenge. The rookie completed the five-kilometer course in a 17th-place time of 20:02.44.
 
 
DIVISION III – North
Runner of the Week
Meagan Kellogg – SR, St. Lawrence University
 
Kellogg won the Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational, covering the six-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 32 seconds, with an average pace of 6:03 per mile. The senior won the race by 53 seconds and led the Saints to a team title with a perfect score of 15 points.
 
Rookie of the Week
Mary Terhune – FR, St. Lawrence University
 
Terhune was the first rookie to cross the finish line at the Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational, finishing sixth overall with a time of 24:25 in the six-kilometer race with an average pace of 6:33 per mile.
 

DIVISION III – SOUTH
Runner of the Week
Abigail Levine – SO, Carnegie Mellon University
 
Levine led the Tartans at the Carnegie Mellon Hampton Inn Pittsburgh - University/Medical Center Invitational, behind Division II power Shippensburg University. The sophomore paced the Tartans, as she was the first Division III runner to finish with a time of 18:52.6. The finish placed her sixth overall in a field of 178 runners.
 
Rookie of the Week
Becca Volz – FR, Waynesburg University
 
Volz paced a trio of Jackets that competed at Carnegie Mellon’s Hampton Inn Pittsburgh- University/ Medical Center Invitational. She posted a team-best time of 21 minutes, 38.1 seconds (6.58/mile) at the five-kilometer event, finishing 90th out of 178 competing runners.
