Bridgeport, Southern Connecticut, Post Pick Up Top Women's Soccer All-Stars Awards
CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Kasey Kenny of the University of Bridgeport, Jacquelyn Fede of Southern Connecticut State University and Elin Nyman from Post University took top honors in the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Women’s Soccer All-Stars, which were announced Tuesday. The voting was done by the coaches or their designee in the ECAC Division II membership.
Kenny, a senior forward from Staten Island, N.Y., is the 2011 ECAC Player of the Year after racking up team-leading totals of 10 goals, seven assists, 27 points and 44 shots. Her other honors this season include third-team Daktronics All-America, first-team All-East Region from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and East Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year. The Purple Knights, who completed the year with a 16-0-2 overall record, were ranked No. 1 in the nation for six weeks at one point and made their fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Fede is a graduate student who earns the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year nod. The North Haven, Conn., product led the Owls to a 10-5-3 record on the season, recording a 0.66 goals-against average and a .845 save percentage in 1646 minutes played. She compiled 12 shutouts, which is a single-season record for the Owls, while making 64 saves. She is a CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team, NSCAA All-East Region, NEWISA All-New England and Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Year.
Nyman is the ECAC Rookie of the Year after receiving similar accolades from Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The forward from Sweden ended her season ranked second in NCAA Division II in goals per game with 1.08 and sixth in points per game after averaging 2.31. She was also named first-team All-CACC and Daktronics second-team All-East Region Team. Her 14 goals placed her second among freshmen nationally.
