2012 ECAC New England Womens Lacrosse All-Stars

CENTERVILLE, Mass.--The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tuesday announced its 2012 Division III New England Women’s Lacrosse All-Star Team.  Receiving the individual awards are Trinity College’s Liz Bruno (shown, left) is the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year, Nicolle Steel from the University of New England is the Defensive Player of the Year, and Elms College’s Rachel Schrutt (right) is the ECAC Rookie of the Year.

The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and Synapse Sports womenslacrosse.com Division III Women’s Lacrosse Midfielder of the Year, Bruno co-captained Trinity to a Division III National Championship this season. The two-time first-team All-American led the team season with 30 assists, 60 ground balls and ranked second with 57 points. She ended her spectacular career by scoring the game-winning goal of the national title game over Salisbury.

Steel, a junior, was not only selected as the Commonwealth Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-CCC member, but was also tabbed to the Pilgrim Region second team decided by the IWLCA Division III coaches.  She led the Big Blue in both ground balls (55) and caused turnovers (44), while also leading the conference in ground balls (4.00) and caused turnovers per game (2.83). Steel added 21 draw controls, two goals and three assists.

Schrutt, a senior goalie, was also named both the Rookie of the Year and the Goalkeeper of the Year within her primary conference, the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance. In her first season of collegiate lacrosse, she played all but 60 minutes in the cage while posting a 15.00 goals-against average and a 51.6 save percentage.
