Denver's Roy and Demopoulos Tabbed USILA All-Americans

DENVER - University of Denver men's lacrosse senior Dillon Roy (Denver, Colo.) and sophomore Alex Demopoulos (Canton, Conn.) were both selected as Honorable Mention All-Americans, it was announced this week by the Unites States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.

"To be recognized as an All-American by lacrosse coaches throughout the nation is a testament to the amount of work and sacrifices all the young athletes and teams have made throughout the season," said head coach Bill Tierney. "Dillon took on a number of responsibilities this season, including switching to long-stick midfielder mid-way through the season, all to help this team be successful and it is nice to see that his efforts were recognized. It is also immensely rewarding to see that all of the intangibles that Alex brings to the game were acknowledged. His impact on the outcome of games often goes unnoticed until you see a stats sheet. He's not a flashy player, but at the end of the day, we could not have done what we did this season without him."

Roy started every game for the Pioneers this season, leading the way with 82 ground balls and 31 caused turnovers. He was honored as the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, an All-ECAC First Team selection and most recently was named a USILA Scholar All-American.

"I have been fortunate in my career at DU to be a part of many great experiences, and to cap it off with a record-setting season and the honor of being named All-America is amazing," Roy said. "I take great pride in representing the state of Colorado and the University of Denver as an All-American."

Also starting all 17 games for the Pioneers, Demopoulos led the team in points (60) and assists (24), and finished second on the team with 36 goals. The attackman was named an All-ECAC First Team selection and earned ECAC Offensive Player of the Week honors three times (03/01/10; 04/05/10; 04/12/10).

"It is a great honor and a dream come true to receive such a great honor," Demopoulos said. "I would not have been able to accomplish what I did this year without the help of my teammates, coaches and the entire DU support staff. I owe all my success to those that have supported me on and off the field."

Since the DU men's lacrosse program joined the Division I ranks, the Pioneers have placed eight student-athletes on the All-America list.
