Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University head men's lacrosse coach Dave Urick was selected by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for its Peter Kohn Award in a ceremony at the United States Lacrosse National Convention in Philadelphia recently.

The award is presented annually to a member of the lacrosse community who best represents the scripture: "Greater love has no one than this, which he laid down his life for his friends," (John 15:13).

Urick is embarking on his 19th season as the head coach for the Hoyas. Under his direction, Urick has brought Georgetown's program to national prominence and he has helped to establish GU as one of the elite programs in the country.

While on the Hilltop, Urick has compiled a 184-67 record, including a school record 13 wins during the 1999 season, when the team reached the Final Four for the first time in school history. His teams have won at least 10 games in a season 11 times, including the last two seasons when the Hoyas won 12 games.

Over the last 10 years, Georgetown has been ranked among the top-10 teams in the country in the final polls by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. Last year, after beating Maryland in the season opener, the Hoyas were ranked No. 1 in the country, the first time the program had been ranked No. 1 during the regular season.

"Dave Urick is as fine an ambassador for the game of lacrosse as I know," said Hank Janczyk, head lacrosse coach at Gettysburg College and former Peter Kohn winner. "His professionalism, integrity, sense of humor, coaching expertise and unselfish nature has made him a great mentor. I can't imagine a better recipient for the Peter Kohn award."

In addition to winning the Peter Kohn Award, Urick has been inducted into the Hall of Fame for four different organizations for his contributions to lacrosse as a coach. The list includes the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame (1993), the Hobart College Athletic Hall of Fame (1990), the Hall of Fame of the Upstate New York Lacrosse Foundation Chapter (1991) and the Potomac Chapter of the United States Lacrosse Hall of Fame (2005),

The award is named after Peter Kohn, former United States lacrosse and Middlebury team manager. Kohn was named the first recipient of the award. Other previous winners include Hank Janczyk, Buddy Beardmore, Jim Darcangelo, Susan Powell, Bob Scott, Jerry Schmidt, Richie Moran, Jim Grube and Ed Britton.
