Seven ECAC Lacrosse Players Named to Tewaaraton Watch List


CAPE COD, Mass. - Seven ECAC Lacrosse League players have been named to the "watch list" for the 2008 Tewaaraton Trophy sponsored by Warrior. The players on the list were nominated by coaches from all three divisons and are early season hopefuls for the prestigious award presented to the top lacrosse player in the nation.

The watch list of 51 players includes: Brendan Cannon and Jerry Lambe of Georgetown, Chris O'Dougherty of Rutgers, Daryl Veltman of Hobart, Drew Adams of Penn State, and Paul Richards and Shane Koppens of Loyola.

Cannon, the 2007 ECAC Offensive Player of the Year and a first team All-ECAC selection, led the Hoyas in scoring last year with 21 goals and 23 assists for 44 points.

Lambe, the 2007 ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, was a semifinalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy last season and earned second-team All-America honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and first team All-ECAC accolades.

O'Dougherty, a 2008 Preseason All-ECAC pick, was a 2007 second team All-ECAC selection. He started all 13 games for the Scarlet Knights last year and placed fourth on the squad with 30 ground balls.

Veltman, a two-time All-ECAC selection, ranked 15th in the nation in goals and 28th in points in 2007. He scored 33 goals and registered 11 assists for 44 points last season.

Adams, a 2008 Preseason All-ECAC selection, has been a first team All-ECAC pick and the ECAC Goaltender of the Year in each of his first two seasons. He posted a 7.78 GAA last season while starting all 13 games.

Richards, a 2008 Preseason All-ECAC selection, played in all 13 games for the Greyhounds in 2007. He scored seven goals and tallied six assists to finish with 13 points. He finished third on the team in ground balls with 40.

Koppens, a senior captain, returns as Loyola's leading scorer after tallying 20 goals and 26 assists last season. He was named to the 2007 All-ECAC second team and also picked up 32 groundballs on the year.
