UMass Alum Andrew Recchione Chosen In NLL Entry Draft

UMass Sports Information

Denver, Colo. - Former UMass standout Andrew Recchione was selected by San Jose in the sixth round (78th overall) of the National Lacrosse League Draft. He joins former teammate Jeff Zywicki with the Stealth. It marks the second California team that has drafted Recchione in the span of three months. In May, he was chosen by the San Francisco Dragons of Major League Lacrosse.

While the MLL is outdoor (field) lacrosse, the NLL is indoor (box) lacrosse. The NLL season kicks off in December. Saturday's draft was held at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.

Recchione was tremendous in his time with the Minutemen. The New Jersey native finished his career with 52 points (41g, 11a), including 40 points (33g, 7a) his final two seasons. In 2006, he helped lead the Minutemen to the National Championship Game. In the NCAA Tournament against Cornell, he scored the game-winning goal, which led to the first round upset. In 2007, he finished the season strong, with six points in the final three games.

That performance led to Recchione being chosen by San Francisco in the fifth round (47th overall) of the MLL Draft on May 31.
