Rutgers Freshman Brian Shemesh Named to 2008 U.S. Mens Under-19 Team
BALTIMORE, Md. - Rutgers University freshman Brian Shemesh (Hillsborough, N.J.) has been selected to represent the United States in the 2008 International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) Under-19 World Championships. Shemesh joins the 23-player squad which will compete in the World Championships from July 3-12, 2008, in Coquitlam, British Columbia.
The team was selected by a 24-person Player Selection Committee following tryouts at UMBC from July 12-15. U.S. Lacrosse invited 120 players to the tryouts and those not selected will be considered alternates for the team. The roster includes 16 recent high school graduates, five rising high school seniors and two current collegians.
Shemesh, a midfielder from Immaculata High School (N.J.), garnered First Team All-State and All-American honors during his 2007 high school season. He was also named to All-Area, All-League, and All-State first teams during both his sophomore and junior seasons and tallied 91 goals and 36 assists in his career.
