Georgetown Announces Captains for 2008 Season, Selects Award Winners for 2007

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's lacrosse team held its annual banquet over the weekend, with the program announcing the Hoya captains for the 2008 season and recognizing award winners from the 2007 season.
Head Coach Dave Urick announced that the captains for the 2008 season will be seniors Miles Kass (Rye, N.Y./Hotchkiss), Jerry Lambe (North Massapequa, N.Y./Farmingdale) and Matt McBride (Morristown, N.J./Delbarton), as well as junior Chris Taylor (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island).
"The team voted for its captains and I think they've selected guys who are great leaders," Urick said. "We've been pretty fortunate to have some student-athletes who have been outstanding students and very solid players and that has helped this program have some success in the last few years."
Lambe, a nominee for the Tewaaraton Trophy, was a second-team All-American selection by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, earned first team All-ECAC honors and was named the league's Defensive Player of the Year.
McBride returns for his senior year after playing in only one game during the 2007 season due to an injury. McBride scored 10 goals and had 12 points in 15 games as a freshman in 2005 and tallied eight points (six goals, two assists) during the 2006 season.
Kass, an honorable mention All-America, carried an 8.16 goals-against average last season will be entering his third season as a starter for the Hoyas this year.
Taylor, who was the recipient of the team's Outstanding Freshman
Award in 2006, is the first junior captain for the men's lacrosse
team since 1999, when former All-American and current assistant
coach Scott Urick, was selected.
The Hoyas finished the 2007 season with a 12-3 overall record and
were ranked No. 4 in the final United States Intercollegiate
Lacrosse Association Coaches poll. Georgetown was selected to the
NCAA Tournament for the 11th-straight season and advanced to the
quarterfinals of the tournament for the ninth time in the last 10
years. The Blue and Gray posted a perfect 6-0 mark in the ECAC
Lacrosse League, winning the conference championship for the sixth
time since the league was formed in 2000.
Lambe was selected as the team's Most Valuable Player, while Brendan Cannon (Haverford, Pa./The Haverford School) was chosen as the team's Offensive MVP and Kass was tabbed as the team's Defensive MVP. Cannon led the Hoyas in scoring for the second-straight season, scoring 44 points on 21 goals and 23 assists. THE ECAC Offensive Player of the Year, Cannon was also named a second team All-American by the USILA.
Andrew Brancaccio (Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Prep) and Barney Ehrmann (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) were selected as the team's Co-Freshmen of the Year for 2007. Brancaccio earned honorable mention All-American honors last year after finishing fourth on the team in scoring with 20 goals, one assist for 21 points. Ehrmann, a second team All-ECAC selection, was one of the anchors on the defensive unit and racked up 46 ground balls.
A trio of seniors who graduated in 2007 were also recognized. Garrett Wilson (B'07), who was selected as a Scholar All-American by the USILA, was the recipient of the Coaches Award. Trevor Casey (B'07), a North-South Game participant who ranks 15th all-time at Georgetown with 67 goals scored, was the recipient of the Jason "Prof" Decker Unsung Hero Award. Christiaan Trunz (B'07), who won nearly 55 percent of his face-offs during his career, was tabbed as the team's Most Improved Player.
The team's Leo H. McCormack Service Award was presented to Director of Athletic Events Jamie Breslin.
