UMass Boston's Nasta Nabs Player of the Week Honors
Player of the Week
Maria Nasta-UMass Boston
Senior, Forward, Andover, Mass./New England College
In three games, the senior tallied six points on three goals and
three assists. The forward picked up an assist in the
Beacons' 2-1 victory over Norwich University on January 15 and came
back the next day to tally her third career hat trick with three
goals and added an assist in UMass Boston's 8-0 win over Castleton.
Nasta's second goal of the game gave her 107 points for her career
and 100 with UMass Boston to become just the third player in school
history to total 100 points. She had scored seven points in her
freshman campaign with New England College. With another
assist against Middlebury, she now has 109 points.
Goalie of the Week
Leah Hallett-UMass Boston
Sophomore, Rocky Hill, Conn./Connecticut Polar Bears
In two league games, the sophomore allowed just one goal in 120
minutes of action for a 0.50 goals against average, while stopping
56 of 57 shots for a .982 save percentage. Hallett made 42
saves to preserve a 2-1 victory for the Beacons on January 15 over
Norwich University, which received six votes in last week's
national poll. She returned the following day to stop all 14
shots she faced vs. Castleton to record her third career shutout.
Hallett also added 21 saves against No. 7 ranked Middlebury.
Rookie of the Week
Kailey Bubier-Southern Maine
Forward, Auburn, Maine/Hebron Academy
The rookie wing helped USM post a 2-0 record for the week scoring
six goals and passing out one assist. Against Plymouth State,
Bubier scored five goals, including a school record four in the
first period, as the Huskies went on to a 16-0 win. The next
afternoon against Saint Michael's, Bubier had a power-play goal and
an assist in a 5-2 win. With her seven-point week, Bubier now
sits atop the Huskies scoring list (11g, 7a).
Honor Roll
Julie Fortier-Norwich
Sophomore, Forward, Saint-Malachie, Quebec/Levis
Lauzon
Fortier scored a short-handed goal in NU's 2-1 loss at
UMass-Boston on Friday afternoon. She also netted a pair of goals
in the Cadets 3-2 upset of No. 8-ranked Manhattanville College on
Saturday night.
Kathleen Roche-Salve Regina
Sophomore, Forward, Boston, Mass./Boston Latin School
Roche tallied four points on two goals and two assists as the
Seahawks posted a 1-0-2 record last week. She scored the opening
goal and assisted on the OT winner against Connecticut College on
Tuesday, then recorded a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win against
Nichols on Thursday.
Rebecca Simmons-Salve Regina
Sophomore, Goalie, Averill Park, N.Y./ Keystone
National
Simmons stopped 71 of 73 shots last week (.973 save pct.) to help
the Seahawks earn three out of a possible four points in her two
starts. She recorded 45 saves in a 2-1 OT win at Connecticut
College on Tuesday and stopped 25 of 26 NEC shots in a 1-1 tie on
Saturday night.
Teraysa White-New England College
Sophomore, Goalie, Belgrade, Maine/Brewster Academy
White totaled 72 saves and allowed just two goals in a pair of
conference ties for the Pilgrims this week. In Friday's tie with
Manhattanville White recorded an impressive 47 saves as the
Valiants out shot the Pilgrims 48-21. Saturday White allowed
just one goal to 10-2-3 Salve Regina recording 25 saves.
