Neumann College Head Men's Ice Hockey Coach, Dominick Dawes, was
named the 2009 American Hockey Coaches Association(AHCA) Men's
Division III Coach of the Year.
In his first season as head coach, Dawes led Neumann to a 21-9-2 season, its first conference championship, first NCAA Tournament bid and first NCAA DIII National Title. The Knights defeated Hobart College, 3-2, to win the ECAC West before beating Gustavus Adolphus 4-1 in the National Championship game.
Coach Dawes is the second coach to win a National Championship as both a player and a coach. The other was Tom Coughlin of St. Norbert.
The award is named in honor of the great Dartmouth College head coach, Edward Jeremiah, and was first presented in 1970.
The Coach of the Year Awards are chosen by members of the AHCA. Winners receive their awards at the annual AHCA Coach of the Year Banquet, held in conjunction with the AHCA Convention in Naples, Fla.
