Six Players Named ECAC East/NESCAC New England Mens All-Stars; Norwich's Cleaver Named MVP
Cape Cod, Mass. - The New England Hockey Writers Association (NEHWA) announced its ECAC East/NESCAC New England All-Star team last week. Six ECAC Men's East players were honored representing three league members. Three New England College players were named to the team, two Norwich Cadets were honored, and UMass Boston had one representative.
UMass Boston goaltender Ryan Donovan was one of two All-Star
goalie selections. The sophomore played in 27 games on the season
recording a .902 save percentage and 3.46 goals against average.
Donovan was also named the 2007-08 ECAC Men's East Goalie of the
Year. The Rexford, New York native made a total of 846 saves on the
season putting him in the top five among Division II/III players
for number of saves.
Trevor Turner (Westbank, British Columbia) from New England
College was named an All-Star defenseman by the NEHWA. Turner was a
key component of a Pilgrim defense that allowed an average of 2.56
goals per game. The sophomore blueliner also had a strong season
offensively notching 23 assists to lead all New England College
defensemen in scoring.
New England College also had two forwards named to the All-Star
team, with Mark Ehl and Brian Pouliot each receiving recognition.
In his sophomore season Ehl (North Vancouver, British Columbia) led
the Pilgrims in scoring, tallying 23 times to go along with 18
helpers. Ehl's 0.85 goals per game put him in the top 10 among all
Division II/III players. Brian Pouliot finished his senior season
with 38 points on 18 goals and 20 assists. The Hooksett, New
Hampshire native finished second on New England College in
points.
Norwich University forwards Nikita Kashirsky and Rick Cleaver were
both named to the NEHWA All-Star team. Kashirsky (Moscow, Russia)
netted 20 goals on the season totaling 42 points for a Cadet
offense that averaged 4.70 goals per game, the third highest
average among all Division II/III schools. Teammate Rick Cleaver
rounded out a brilliant career at Norwich with a 50 point season
placing him ninth in the nation among Division II/III players with
1.79 points per game. Cleaver, who hails from Vancouver Island,
British Columbia, was also named the ECAC East/NESCAC Most Valuable
Player for the 2007-08 season by the New England hockey Writers
Association.
The All-Stars will be honored on April 16, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at
the New England Hockey Writers banquet to be held at Prince
Restaurant on Route 1 in Saugus, Mass. Reservations for the dinner
