Two ECAC Men's East Coaches Reach Career Milestones
Cape Cod, Mass.- New England College men's ice hockey coach Tom
Carroll, and The University of Southern Maine men's ice hockey
coach Jeff Beaney reached career milestones over the past week.
Tom Carroll picked up his 100th career win on Tuesday,
December 11 with New England College's 3-2 victory over ECAC
Northeast member Curry College. The win brings Carroll's overall
record to 100-40-7 for his six year career behind the bench for the
Pilgrims. Carroll currently ranks as the winningest coach in New
England College hockey history, with a .704 winning percentage. The
Pilgrims have been to the ECAC East playoffs every season under
Carroll, and captured the ECAC East crown in 2005, earning a bid
into the NCAA Tournament.
This season Carroll has led the Pilgrims to a 7-0-1 record, and
4-0-1 ECAC East mark to put NEC atop the standings in a three way
first place tie. The Pilgrims are currently ranked 13th
in the USCHO.com National Poll.
Jeff Beaney recorded his 200th career win on Saturday, December 8
when the University of Southern Maine topped Suffolk 7-4. Beaney,
in his 21st season as the Huskies head coach, has a career record
of 200-279-26. Beaney took over the helm at Southern Maine in 1987,
and is the winningest coach in the program's history.
The 2007-08 Huskies are currently ranked eighth in the latest
USCHO.com poll. Southern Maine sits atop the ECAC East with a 4-0-1
record, and a 7-0-1 overall mark. Beaney has guided this year's
squad to wins over perennial hockey powerhouses Middlebury and
Norwich University. The win over Norwich was the first over the
Cadets since February 2, 1996.
Tom Carroll will look to add to his win total when New England
College travels to Oswego to take on the Lakers on Saturday,
January 5 for a 4:00 pm start. Jeff Beaney will lead Southern Maine
against Plymouth State on Saturday, December 15 at 6:00 pm to close
out the first half of the season.
