Men’s Cross Country Runners of the Week (for the week ending October 13, 2012)

Division I

David Ricksecker - Liberty University

Senior, Laurel, Dela.

Ricksecker posted the first individual victory of his collegiate cross country career at Friday’s (Oct. 12) Royal Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte, N.C.  The field included 189 total runners. His winning 8K time was a personal-best 24:07.6, which was 29 seconds faster than his previous best. Teammates followed him in second, third and fourth places as Liberty won the team title with 19 points.

Matthew Gillespie – Iona College

Graduate, Dollar, Scotland

Gillespie finished third overall at the Fourth Annual Adidas Invitational at the Thomas Zimmer Cross Country Course on the campus of the University of Wisconsin. Gillespie competed against 21 of the nation's Top 30 teams and six other squads receiving votes.  He completed the 8k course in 23:25. He finished behind NCAA Championship favorites and Arizona duo Lawi Lalang and Stephen Sambu. Gillespie helped No. 5 Iona College to a second place finish overall.

Division III New England

Hayden Bunnell, Colby-Sawyer

Sophomore, St. Johnsbury, Vt. 

Bunnell won his third race of the season in a time of 25:40, besting 203 other runners at the Western New England Invitational. Bunnell broke his own school record by over a minute that was in the previous week at Westfield. 

Division III Metro/Upstate

Tom Clark – SUNY Geneseo

Senior, Wantagh, NY

Clark finished fifth in a time of 24:15 to aid nationally fifth-ranked Geneseo to the team title over 32 teams at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble on Saturday.

Division III South

William JonesFranciscan University
Senior, Green Bay, Wis.
Not only did Jones run well in the race against 274 other runners, placing first in the Intra-Regional Rumble at Oberlin College, but he also beat his own personal best time by 45 seconds.  Jones posted an 8K time of 23:31.
