Players of the Week for the Period Ending January 15, 2012

Division I

Player of the Week

C.J. McCollum – Lehigh University
Junior, Guard, Canton, Ohio

McCollum averaged 29.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game in a pair of wins for the Mountain Hawks.  The junior tied a career high with seven 3-pointers in a win over Colgate, 78-56, on Saturday.  McCollum scored 14 points in the final 2:50 of the first half, sparking Lehigh to a 22-3 run to close out the period.  Earlier in the week, McCollum scored 26 points in a 71-60 win over American. 

Division II

Player of the Week

Darian David – University of Bridgeport
Junior, Guard, Bronx, N.Y.

David led the Purple Knights to a 2-0 record last week, averaging 24.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.  The junior scored 20 points in the second half to help Bridgeport rally from a 24-point deficit to defeat Molloy, 78-65, on Wednesday.  Against the University of the District of Columbia, David scored 24 points in a 77-75 Bridgeport victory.

Division III – New England Region

Player of the Week

DaQuan Brooks Western Connecticut State University
Senior, Guard, Atlanta, Ga.

Brooks became Western Connecticut’s all-time scorer last week, averaging 35.5 points per game during a 1-1 week for the Colonials.  The senior scored a career-high 46 points, 30 of which came in the second half, in a 94-87 win over Keene State.  Brooks became the career leading scorer for the Colonials with a traditional 3-point play with six minutes remaining in the first half in a loss at Plymouth State.  He finished the game with 25 points.

Division III – Upstate Region

Player of the Week

Simon Smith – Stevens Institute of Technology
Senior, Forward, Cranford, N.J.

Smith averaged 16.5 points and 19 rebounds per game in two wins for the Ducks.  In a matchup against two teams that entered the game undefeated in conference play, the senior scored 16 points and collected 20 boards in an 82-61 win over Ithaca.  Smith followed that performance with 17 points and 18 rebounds in Stevens’ 95-76 win over Utica.

Division III – Metro Region

Player of the Week

Tavon McNair – SUNY College at Old Westbury
Senior, Center, Brooklyn, N.Y.

McNair averaged 23.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game as the Panthers won three conference matchups to move into fourth place in the Skyline Conference standings.  The senior scored 29 points and added nine rebounds in a 78-56 win over SUNY Purchase.  On Saturday, McNair grabbed a career-best 18 boards in a win over NYU-Poly, 73-52.

Division III – South Region

Player of the Week

Mike Marvin – Penn State – Abington
Freshman, Forward, Horsham, Pa.

Marvin had a monster week, averaging 23.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game while shooting 88 percent from the floor in two conference victories for the Nittany Lions.  The freshman scored game highs of 28 points and 14 rebounds in an overtime win over SUNYIT, 113-102, on Sunday.  Marvin sent the game into the extra session by scoring a game-tying layup late in the second half.  Marvin also scored 19 points, collecting a game-high 13 rebounds, in a win over Cazenovia, 77-67, on Saturday.
